Angry HELP ME!!!!! I WANT TO DRIVE BADD!!!!!!!83 GSL wont start!

I put in a new deck recently in my 83 rx7. There were only 4 wires going into the old tape player and the people at the radio shop are retarded so I ended up rewiring all the speakers individually to the new deck. The stereo runs perfect now but now my car wont start. I accidentaly ran it's battery out of power and attempted jumping it but it just wont start. It turns over every time but wont start. The first time we tried jumping it, it started for a minute but died then after that wouldnt start again.

Any help would be great. I personally think it was a coincidence that it stopped running after i rewired the stereo but i might have unplugged something important. One of my friends thinks that I might have a problem with my alternator.

If you know what you are doing when it comes to first gens that dont start ANY advice or ideas would really help me out ALOT!

p.s. I've been grounded from driving for 2 months and now that I finally can drive again my car doenst run. Its making me really angry so any help would be AWESOME.

E-mail (if you want) to jetselsk8r@yahoo.com

So it started up for a min. then it died correct? And now it just turns over.

If it ran for a minute then died out, it makes me think that its ok. When you tryed to start her back up could you have flooded it?

Let it sit for awhile and go try it again, and put a batt charger on it.

im trying to keep it simple here. Knock the simple stuff out first

Your flooded. Pull the plugs. Hit the starter for 30 sec. (no more then that) take the plugs and light a match and burn the fuel off the end of them (do not burn your self), Put them back in and start your car. If it does not start Pull the plugs, put a tea spoon the tranny fluid in the bottom holes, burn the fuel off the plug again (do not burn your self) hit the starter for 60 sec, go walk around the block (5 min starter cool down) come back and hit the starter again for 30 sec. Put the plug back in and start the car. IT WILL SMOKE FOR 5 mins at least thats norm. If it still does not start e-mail me, I will buy your car!

Mothred, you are about half right, and if he followed your instructions, he has a good chance of having an engine bay fire.

Pull the plugs, clean and dry them, brake cleaner works good for this. Take the fuse out for the fuel pump, lay the plug wires away from the engine and crank the engine over for 20-30 secs 2-3 times. Take the lid off the air cleaner and pour a capful of motor oil down each barrels of the carb, turn the engine over a couple times more.

Reinstall plugs and fuse, start engine.

If it doesn't start, wash, rinse, repeat. Oh, And a push start would'nt hurt either.

I tried to clean and dry the spark plugs and run the engine. Its still not starting and will still turn over but wont start. I followed trochoid's steps very precicely except i used auto cleaner\degreecer to clean the spark plugs.

This over all did nothing and it is doing the same thing it was the first time i tried to start it.

If anyone has anyother ideas that would help.

Degreasers leave a film, brake cleaner won't. I have had to bead blast new plugs, then clean them with brake cleaner to get them to fire at times.

If all else fails, push or pull start, if that doesn't work, then start looking at the ignition system, again. One of my favorite f__ups is to forget to put the rotor back in the dizzy. Wiped a few batteries in my day doing that.

All my fuses are good. None of the advice yet has helped me so I'll probably have to resort to paying someone to fix it. Thanks for the help though.

Any Different ideas would still be helpful.

maybe its not the question of too much gas flooding ur engine... how about too little gas.. little enough that you need to add more? seriously.

Thanks for your guys help. I feel really stupid but on accident while I was changing my radio I blew a fuse. I took a fuse from on of the spare fuse holders or what I thought was a spair but actually ended up being the FUEL PUMP fuse. Thanks for all your help though even tho it was simple i got to know my ride a lot better and learn how more of it worked.

I had the same problem. I did a compression test and it was fine. I put a timimg lamp on all four wires and it proved good. So all that was left was fuel. I bravely poured a capful of fuel straight into the carb and it started Immediately.
