Help me finish my SE, few final bugs to work out.
Well after today y RX-7 is less than a week away from being registered and insured, ready for the road. Today, I put in the new rad, and reinstalled my fan, and got the TPS in adjustment to work out the idle problem.
But before I take it in for inspection and emissions, I have to work out a few small problems.
One, my front end is sitting way too low....to the point that the tires are about to touch the fenders...I put spring blocks in it tonight to temporarily bring the front up.. Tomorrow, I'm going to take a set of springs off of an '82 GSL, and I want to find out for sure if they will work for me.
Two, I've searched and found out that 205's are the widest tire you can use....I am running 205/60/15's on my car, and just put them on. Today, I gouged the hell out of the inner sidewall of one of my tires, but not the other....what would causet this problem, only on one side? I think I'm going to pick up some 195's tomorrow too, also make my manual steering a little easier.
Three, my windshiel washer motor is not working.....but I don't think it is the motor. I have read up on it some, and it was never the motor, but I did not find a straight answer as to what was causing this..
Four, my high beams do not work....I can turn my headlights on, they pop up, the lights come on, but there is no switching from low to high beams. I hear no relay clicking when I work the switch...is the switch just sticking, or do I need to replace the relay itself?
Thanks in advance, help me out, I wantto drive my 7....it's almost ready.

Bounce the front of the car... do the tires rub on the fenders?
Tire gouging on one side... could be that the strut tube or spindle is bent or the rims have an improper offset.
The stock SE tire size is 205/60/14.. a 60 series tire on 15s is not 1 to 1 on the aspect ratio. I have 205/50/15s all around with no problems. If need be go with 195/50/15 tires up front or even some 3mm wheel spacers as well for more clearance.
82 springs will work..if the struts are still the originals try replacing those also while youre at it.
Since both the highbeams and windshield washer arent working, it could be the that combination switch either dirty or worn out. Do the highbeams work when the lights are up and you flash them?
Car diagnosis is never easy for me unless I have my hands and eyes on it.. hope these help out to get that black beauty on the road.

I thought stock SE size was 195/60/14?
RacerX, the tires did rub the fenders, it just sits too damn low. Here's a pic , even with the 14's it was way too low.
I'll pick up a combo switch today and see if that helps, I want to try and clean the old one though.

Yeah,
I'm having the same problem with the winshield washers. I checked the pump (by giving it a direct link to the battery for a few seconds) and it works... so it turned out to be the combo switch. Prohibitively expensive at Mazda let me tell ya! I have yet to fix mine, my safety's happening in either September or in the Spring.... I was thinking of doing what my friend Eric (who had the same problem) did and just wire a new switch for the washer, and mount it in the car somewhere... I don't know if the safety ***** will allow this though, so I'm gonna have to check.
This seems (from what I can see) to be a relatively common problem... why the hell they made the combo switch so big and expensive, I dunno. It actually goes all the way around the steering column, containing BOTH arms for lights and wipers! On my combo switch, everything works *except* the washer.. dammit.
-> no expert on tires, can't help ya, but it would seem to me that it's probably caused by **** suspension. Mine was crap after 20 years. Shocks/Struts are cheap for this car. Cost me $266 Canadian (186USD) for all four. The springs are a little more expensive though. I got the RB ones, which are gonna be about $350 Canadian (245USD) by the time they hit my door.
Have Fun

Ok, I picked up another combo switch today at the yard, it was from an '82...the only thing that's different is that the pre '84's had the hazard switch on the combo switch, mine has it on the dash. Believe it or not, all I have to do is take the button off the switch and it's fine. The hazards actually work by use of both switches. Anyways, I brought it home, compeleley tore it apart, and cleaned all the connections inside. I put it in the car, and now my headlights operate normally, I have low and high beams, etc...but my wiper washer motor still doesnt' come on. When I pull it back, the wipers come on, but no washer. I'm going to double check that it's not the motor tomorrow, I've had enough for today.
As far as my suspesion, I'm thinking about ordering some RB springs, and getting some replacement shocks for it...I dont' have the money to go all out, and even the springs are gonna hit my wallet kinda hard with all the other stuff I've been doing with the car lately. I tried to get springs and shocks off of an '82 today to use, as it sat at normal ride height, but it was in a yard, and I couldn't get them off without the aid of an impact wrench or something.
