Help! Just bought! Wont Run!

ok, im new to the whole rotary thing. just picked up a 1984 rx-7 in very nice condition with 84,000 miles on it. had it towed home.. hasnt been run since 1999. emptied out gas, put in fresh gas, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, new battery.. can remove lid to 4 barrel carb and pour gas into it and it will crank momentarily.. but does not seem to be getting any gas from tank.. noticed when i replaced fuel filter that there was a small gash in the hose right after the fuel filter so i fixed that but here is the deal.. i know nothing about these cars. i do not know if the fuel pump is working or not, dont seem to "hear" it kick on when i turn the key.. i also do not know where the fuel enters the carb but im pretty sure that its the two larger hoses on the drivers side of the carb but feel free to correct me if im wrong. anywho.. i have heard things like "it coule be your fuel pump or relay, but i have heard there is a way to bypass the relay or "jump " it to test if it is the relay or not. nor do i know where the fuel pump is located.. any help would be appreciated, i would love to drive this car to work tomorrow..

Jack the car up, near the drivers rear wheel, there should be a plate with I believe 3 screws on it. Unscrew it and the FP is right on top. The fuel filter was attached to the plate on the outside of mine, so if yours is the same you shouldnt miss it.

^^ If it still sticks then tap the carb with a hammer lightly.

The relay is under the dash, just to the right of the steering column. It is a small gold colored cylinder. If you lay on your back and look up under the dash you can see it just above the lower lip of the dash. The plug has 6 terminals, but only 4 are used.

If you jump either of the Black/white wires to the Blue/white wire the fuel pump will get 12V when you turn the key to the on position.

jumped it.. carb started to overflow.. im guessing things were sticking.. stopped doing it after a bit.. still trying to get to stay running though.. can pump gas and get to finally start but bogs along at about 1500 rpm's and then stops so im guessing that it got a little flooded when the carb overflowed

ok so now im guessing that it is a carb issue.. i can pull the fuel line from the carb and fuel will spew out, yet reconnect, try to crank and will only get small urges at cranking.. stuck valve in the carb? where should i start looking? or should i just tow it somewhere at this point and say "fix it for me".. any help?

Look at the 2 glass sites on the carb. The fuel level should be about halfway full on both. Check to see that you are getting a fine mist in the 2 primary holes of the carb when you open up the throttle. Some things for you to check, good luck.

I would imagine after sitting for 8 years the carb would need to be cleaned/rebuilt. As in disassemble, soak in parts cleaner, reassemble. If there was gas in the tank for 8 years you probably need to remove and clean the tank also. It will have varnish and goo coating the inside of it.

The 2 smaller holes would be your primaries. Just look down the carb and pull on the throttle cable to open up the plates. See if you see any gas squirting in and you should also see a foggy mist in the carb.

its hiding between the carb and fire wall. from the pass. side you can see a half round rocker, the throttle cable goes under this.
