Help Installing FC 1000 on an 80 with an 13b swap.

Ok. I have a 1980 Rx-7. I bought it with a 13b swap. Naturally aspirated. It has a distributor and the two coil packs. This might be redundant to most but I am not sure what comes with what since I didn't do it.

But anyways. I had been driving my car across country and at about 110 my car started sputtering and I slowed down and it was fine. Then a while later it did it again at around 85. All under heavy load. So, I just concluded it was an ignition problem and decided it was time to upgrade. So, I bought Jacobs Fc 1000 and two C-4 coils. Although, I know that the FC 1000 will only operate one coil. I think I have everything hooked up right up until the coils go.

The battery connect are dummy proof and then the white black wires that connect to the new c-4 coil is pretty self explanitory but when it comes to connecting I guess what would be the input to the FC I am a little lost. Because there are two connectors on the original coil. One is the key on power and I plugged that into the red key on pwer wire per the instructions but the other wire plugged into the + side does what and should it be plugged into anything. Then I plugged in what I thought would be the correct plug in from the - side. But no workie. So I switched and still nothing then I tried plugging all 4 and still nothing... I am just confused, flustered and lost. Now I am starting to wonder if I am supposed to be taking signals from the distributor instead of the coils or something.

Stupid thing should come with some more specific instructions for us less knowledgeable personnel

But please help. this is my daily driver and if you ven know where I could just find more information would be great. I would be happy with even electrical diagrams of the ignition system so I can see how it is all wired and is suppoed to work. .

you don't use the igniter again.. you have to connect the fc to where the igniter was connected at the distributer. should be very similar to wiring up an msd. there are many posts regarding this. also a detailed instruction guide on a website that i don't remember right now. once i am home i can send the link. sure its for the msd6al but i am sure its very similar

Yeah, there is a lot of un burned fuel that comes out the other end but it was suggested from a trusted rotary mechanic and it seems to run great.

But thanks for the info on the MSD. I haven't looked at the page yet but it sounds like from what your saying I use the pickups from the distributor not the inputs to the coil. That is something I started to wonder about afterwards. Thanks again and I will let you know how it works out.

Ok, next question. I've got everything working now. Much thanks. The low end feels great but once I get to top end if feels like it is GREATLY lacking. Use to it was have a kick like I had VTEC or something and I would end up spinning tires. Now it just steadily climbs and then eventually just cuts out. I hooked up the leads for the Tach but it is reading about twice as high as it should. I don't know how to rectify this either.

BTW instead of the dual leading coil directly to the plugs I have mine set up with using just one coil for the leading that goes back to the distributor.

I have not checked but they should still be good. I think I did my last tune up about 7 months ago and about 4000 miles. So they should be find.

Guess I will have to play with my secondary (brain fart) nozzles or something.

Is there a sight that breaks everything down from carbs to ignition all in reffrence to rotaries. My problem is I have knowledge of all systems but I know that rotaries work a little different and I don't know details. But I know squat on carbs.

I shoved it driver side behind the shock mount after I had removed the cruise control.
