Help! How to Put the Stock Fan Back on!
I know this might sound rediculous, but how would you go about putting the stock fan back on? I know how to put the fan shroud on, that's easy. But when looking at the stock fan, how do I get to the 10mm bolts on the inside of the fan to bolt onto the pulley?? Should I sepparate the actual fan from the attachment that goes to the pulley?? Hopefully I am being descriptive enough for you guys to understand what I am talking about.
Also, the previous owner didn't supply me w/ the correct 10mm bolts to put the stock fan onto the pulley, could someone give me the correct length of the bolts?
Thanks!!!
Ryan

Nothing needs to be seperate. All you need to do is line up the holes and put the bolts in, and then tighten them up. (tighning them is chalenging, but If you get a freind to hold the belts, so nothing turns it goes easily)
What makes you think you have the wrong bolts?
I hope that made sence to you, Ted.

Thanks, yes this makes perfect sence. My main question is what length 10mm bolts? The previous owner did not give me the bolts to put the stock fan on. B/c there are many different length bolts you can purchase.
Also the stock fan spins or is on all the time??? Correct?

It's easy, just separate the fan from the mount and put things back together in the right order. I assume that the previous owner threaded bolts back so they wouldn't be loose and get lost. Look at anybody elses FB. Sometimes I've gone to the junkyard to practice on their cars when I wasn't sure.

For the later 84-85 models.
Long Bolts are 1-3/4" inner length (Holds Spacer to the Pulley)
Short Bolts are 3/4" inner length (Holds CLutch Fan to the Spacer)
The earlier FB's 79-Not sure what year they changed the Fan Clutch Assembly but they are completly different.
Make sure that you don't over tighten them on, they Break Off faily easy. Use some Thread Sealer.
Note: that I did not remove the Plastic Fan from the assembly, so do not get the Bolts Confused.

Does there need to be some sort of plate between the pulley and the actual fan?? I am having trouble bolting the fan up to the pulley, it will not sit flush w/ the pulley assembly. I'll post up pics soon to show.
Also, do you need the stock fan shroud on the car?? The reason I am asking is b/c the radiator is not stock and the fan shroud touches the FMOC that is below the radiator, is this ok? Will it melt the fan shroud?\

The bolt holes on the back of the fan assembly should line up with the holes in the plate on the pully. If they don't, it's possible that you have an early plate, and a later fan. I have been told that 84-85 used a different fan clutch, and that could be where the difference is.
The plate looks like the one on my '83. A freind has an '85, and it has a totally different fan adapter than mine.
As for the shroud covering the FMOC under the radiator, sounds like it was converted to an early rad/FMOC. 79-82 used a FMOC under the rad. 83-85 12a's had a tall rad, and a beehive oil cooler under the oil filter. The 79-82 shroud also covered the FMOC, so now worries there.

there is a spacer (about 3" thick) that is between the pulley and the fan
first, you bolt the spacer, to the pulley, then you use short 10mm bolts to mount the fan to the spacer
