Help with FB transmissions numbers needed
Help with FB transmissions numbers needed
Here's a question for you FB transmission Gurus.
I have four FB transmissions and I can't remember which car they came from.
Two were removed from 84 GSLs, one from an 84 GS and one from an 83 GSL. I'm assuming they're all original to the cars I got them from, but I can't be certain about that.
They have the following number ID tags affixed to the top of the bell housings:
Transmission A: D19350
Transmission B: M01127
Transmission C: D10703
Transmission D: D14988
All four transmissions appear to be identical, except transmission A, which lacks the breather hole in the bottom of the bell housing, near the starter motor hole (and thus likely an 83 model).
Does anybody know how these ID numbers can be used to conclusively know what year FB they came from?
Thanks!

nope! i've never seen those numbers written down anywhere except that sticker on the transmission.
since the Cosmo 20B engines were A0001-A9999 to B0001-B9999 and all the way into the E's, we could maybe guess that the Transmissions did something similar? transmission A doesn't fit this, unless it was a the 1983 part made later as a replacement.

The transmission with the breather is from a GSL-SE. I have seen the silver stickers you're talking about but I also con't confirm that any of the numbers are related to a certain model year. I have often wondered this myself Ray.
Thanks J9 and Dave for the feedback, but it looks like for now at least the meaning of those little silver stickers with the one letter and 5 number codes is going to remain a mystery.
I did a bit sleuthing in my old photobucket library and found a few pictures from when I took the cars apart that let me identify the origins of the transmissions.
It goes like this:
Transmission A: D19350 - 1983 GSL
Transmission B: M01127 - 1984 GSL
Transmission C: D10703 - 1985 GS
Transmission D: D14988 - 1984 GSL
I'm certain that transmissions A and D are original to the cars and have no reason to believe B and C are transplants, so it looks to me like there is no obvious logic to the sticker numbers.
But if anyone has any more information on this please let us know!
PS - Hey Dave, you are overdue for your 10 Rotor, the Mods are not doing their job!

Ray, I've posted the question in the mod discussion section and it seems they should auto update. Mine however has not. Kinda bummed about it actually as I was the one who came up with the idea for the anniversary badges being added to our post tabs.
