GSL-SE: No Timing marks on pulley
Ok, I'm not crazy. The pulley on my gsl-se has no timing marks on it. Not even dimples where the paint wore off. nothing... nada.
This was never really an issue but I rebuilt my motor and just got it in the car... and now how do I align my distributor?
I mean... I have no ideas. Do i need to buy a pulley off someone that has marks?

Even with the marks on the pulley, you still need a reference with respect to the front e-shaft hub. The best way, before putting the engine in the car, is to use the flywheel.
I don't have the exact procedure but I know it's listed in the archive.

It's really easy to loose the marks on a first gen pulley. They are painted and I believe have a really small mark in the metal that for some reason disappears.
When I take the pulley off, I try to find the mark and then put one pulley bolt back in to keep the orientation. Then, I make a small mark on the e-shaft hub. Next comes taking a small triangle file and groove the leading and trailing marks. After sand blasting and powder coating the pulley, I add white and yellow paint to the grooves.
The earlier hubs/pulley's have a reference hole that a lead rivet went in.

Thanks for all the replies.
Luckily we took the pulley inside and put it under a bright lamp. We found the timing marks! They mostly just looked like 2 rusty pits but where too conveniently precise. So we put white paint in them and sure enough they line up when the motor is at TDC.
Phew!
