Help! Failed smog

Took the car in for it's smog check and it failed. It's a 84 GSL stock with auto trans. The CO was double the allowable amount, but the HC and NO were both within allowable limits by large amounts. Anyone have any ideas how I can get the CO down? Where I live in central calif. we have smog 2 and they put it on the dyno, the CO measured 1.47 at 15mph and 1.20 at 25mph, the limits are .89 and .69. The tech said it most likely is the carb but since RX7s are very rare he's not sure.

Take a standard heater hose and bypass the ACV and run the air pump straight to the cat.
9 times outta 10 it's your ACV messing up.

And then when you leave hook it back to the way it was. I'm sure it'll pass a visual as well.

Worked for me..

Thanks guys, I'll give her a tune up and I'll try the ACV trick. Would it be worth trying to fix the acv and how much do they cost?

Sounds like......

Test your egr. Unless the smog tech passed your egr.

Only other reason I can think of is o2 sensor and cat.

You could retard the timing 10 degress BTDC. You should pass for sure. Just dont tell the smog tech that you did that.

A couple other tricks..........

Put a bottle of carb cleaner in the gas tank with about a 1/4 tank to go........make sure the car is hot when you get to the smog station........drive around awhile before you get there..........my old 84 gsl would smoke up the place.........I did this and it always passed.........
