Help with choosing 1st or vert???

Guys I need your help deciding what car to buy. The 1st gen is listed in the "for sale section of the forum, has weber, full RB exhaust, eletric fan, dual pully,MSD ign.,Panasport wheels etc. Also the body is clean with slight surface rust. Only drawback is it has a salvaged title. Motor sounds NICE! The other is an 88 convertable with RB headers clean interior and exterior, not to many mods, clean title but the guy says it makes a LOUD clunk sound when taking off on 1st gear only. The top on the vert is in great shape.

I would pay to have the vert checked by a mechanic & use his report to make a judgement, it could just be in need of u joints or could be a lot worse, I have always liked convertibles.

Depends upon if you want to look good in it, or feel good driving it.

I like verts too.

But pana's full exhaust and a weber would be hard to pass up.

The whole salvage title thing kind of ruins any car for me, but thats just me. I know some cars that have salvage titles are just stolen recovery cars in some states, but most of the time a salvage car denotes that that thing has been hit and beat to **** at some point.

Also, the resale value of a salvage vehicle is nill for the most part, and then you also have to deal with guys like me who are turned off the moment you say "salvage tite". I guess its entirely up to you however, so if you can find out exactly why the car has a salvage title, and take a look at it, and investigate it thoroughly before purchase, then I guess it might be ok, other than that, I would pass on it.

I've had several 1st gens and currently an 88 vert. I would ask if the car would be a daily driver, if so, I'd go 1st gen. I dearly love my vert, but I only drive it on nice days. I drove my GSL and GSL-SE's all the time. Also, an NA vert is frustratingly slow compared to the relatively quick 1st gens because of weight. That's why I have a TII engine in the vert .

IMO the vert would not be ideal (cold!) in winter weather, but a great car nonetheless.

Salvage title aside, driving an FB compared to the vert is night and day. The one guy that I drive with for cruises and I swap cars quite often. He's got an FC with a custom turbo etc...and both he and I agree that my FB is a lot more fun to drive because it's so light and feels more like a track car than the FCs do.

Okay guys the 1st gen it is and now I'm am going to pick her up. By the way the car was in an impound and the owner never wanted to pay the fine to get it out. According to the seller thats why it has a salvaged title (Abandoned). BUt hey I had a Lincoln VII that I bought with a salvaged title, payed $1200 got it repaired, got rear ended and the insurance co. cut me a check for $4500. profited $2000. Anyways gotta run and pick up my ride!

If I only had to pick one (and I've had both) I would go with the FB. the one you described sounds very nice. the vert is fun but so is the fb plus the fb is much more practical. You can't get much stuff in the vert (no storage bins, no room behind the seats, and very small trunk. Also, stereo upgrades are much easier with the fb.

Nice problem you have though.

Get the vert, it's more than likely just the front diff mount that clunks.

If I had to choose,Id take the vert, simply because I already have a 1st gen.

The vert is a great road car and a sexy convertible......but they are S-L-O-W....slower than sh*t,no lie.Way too heavy and underpowered like hell with the N/A engine.But....a great car to drive and enjoy.

Or be like me, have a Gen1 vert with a 275hp Jspec12AT. Then you own the road!

Good choice, as much as I like a vert, as Steve said, the Gen 2 NA vert unfortunately lacks performance to go with its style.

The Panasports will really give a great look to your new baby. What color are you going for?

Wheels are staing stock color with polished lip. Car is more than likely going to stay factory original color.....its like a metalic bluish grey color, not sure but I like the color. Trying to keep it simple. Anyways I'll be sure to keep evryone posted on my progress!
