HELP: can't decide on induction setup for 12a CSP auto-x car. carb or injection?
I am gonna be setting my 85 rx-7 up for CSP auto-x, and can't decide on what induction setup to run. this car will ahve to stick with stock ports to be legal, but induction is unlimited. the three choices i am stuck between are:
1. sterling carb/ported stock intake
2. holley carb/RB holley manifold: i already have the manifold, as i found it cheap on ebay in great shape. i have a hard time paying $533 for the RB carb that is based on a carb that retails for $200, plus dumping another $225 into it for the race bowls that will fix the cornering problem. I was thinking of the 570 street avenger, but that might be too much for this engine. any advice on carb choices/jetting to make it work? i'm gonna premix, so the omp will not be a problem.
3. holley commander fuel injection/RB holley manifold: this is the one i want the most, but at $1300 its a little pricey. don't know if it would be worth it or not, but programmable fuel injection sounds really nice.
i did a search and found that you can make a regular holley carb work, just couldn't find jetting info. any help would be appreciated.

Fuel injection will give better throttle responce but it is expensive.
I use a dellorto Racing Beat setup but I doubt it is much of an advantage if any for autocross over a well setup standard Nikki carb.
My vote would be for the Sterling if you just had to spend money.

I vote side draft weber intake. All the fastest CSP FB's I have seen over here run this setup.
Plus its absolutly beautiful!
Fuel injection would be the best odviousley, but as said before its very expensive, and it can be a bitch to set up.

if you can find a used standalone computer and some TII injectors this TB could be a setup worth considering:

i am leaning towards the sterling carb and ported stock intake. the holley has been voted out. i bought the holley manifold hoping to modify it to fit the nikki on it, but the ports are just too different, and i don't see it being worth the hassle. i'm keeping the holley efi setup in mind, b/c you get everything for $1300 (minus the laptop, but i already have that for my wrx), but thats a lot of money to be putting into this car on one item. i know speed costs money, so it will probably break down to finances at the time.

agree. with auto x you don't wanna holley. nothin more annoying than coming out of a turn and bogging. i'd go with a sterling or a side draft. sterlings would be cheapest though.
on a side note, you gonna sell that holley intake manifold?

Why not look at a Megasquirt system and a few home-made components. By the time I'm done mine I will have less than $1000 Canadian into it and that includes the laptop. I'm still gathering components but it will not be that hard. There are even a few base maps available from various people on the megasquirt forum. There should also be a complete ignition module available eventually, as for now you can only run without trailing or with fixed spilt.

edit: and yes, i think megasquirt would be a very good idea, programmability, without the humongous cost...
How about something a little cheaper?

This and some NA injectors should put you in the right ball park. I would also recommend either an SE tank or some sort of surge-tank type of unit.
I haven't entirely decided how I'm going to get the fuel to the rail. I'm sort of tossed between going with a surge-tank or perhaps modding mine with a baffle and external pump.

yeah, i'm gonna sell the manifold. there is a post on the first gen parts for sale forum. i think i'm just gonna stick with the sterling setup. i don't ever expect the car to win a national championship, and from what i have read i think it will be pretty good (fun enough for me at least) with the sterling carb. i like the car, and after thinking about it, want to stick to a budget buildup (that way i can save up for my next toy, a factory five cobra kit).

See Appendix F in the 2004 rule book.
In the Street Prepared section it says, "Any rotary engine model vehicle that has a lubrication system that incorporates an oil line injecting oil line injecting oil into the fuel system in the stock configuration must maintain that arrangement in Street Prepared, even if an alternate carburetor is used."
I just found this a couple weeks ago.

I wonder why they insist on retaining the stock OMP system. There are no performance gains to be had when switching to premix, just some (supposedly) better lubrication.

yeah, i looked and found it. does anyone have the link to the company that sells the remote resevoirs so that you can run 2 cycle through the omp? that would still be legal, correct?
