Exclamation Help With Brakes!

Okay, now I thought all non-SE 1st gens had the same front brakes, but I was looking into replacing the rotors on my '85 S model, and I found two different part numbers. One for 79-83, and one for 84-85's.

What the difference?

I found some rotors for cheap on e-Bay but they're for 79-83. I want to know if they fit.

Thanks.

the 79-80, 81-83, 84-85 calipers are different. not sure on rotors. i "thought" the 79-80 were different then the 81-85 due to the different hubs.

the 81-83 front rotors are different than the 84-85. its got something to do with the spindels. not sure on the details though. but yeah, they wont fit.

yes maguire is right. the early cars (81-83) have smaller spindle diameter, therefore making the bearings and everything different.

If it's anything like the Oz cars (which it never is ) the later cars have vented and slightly bigger discs on the front while the older cars are solid.

That'll be where your different part numbers come into it.

Okay WAIT A MINUTE HERE... i have a feeling this is going to get confusing again. The aussie cars have the same pattern as the gsl-se right?? Wouldnt they have the same rotors then too? The -SE had stud/lugnuts. It seems odd that mazda would go to the trouble of making different rotors. In the US all the 1st gens except the GSL-SE have lugstuds.

Oz cars -
'79-'80 Series 1 - Solid & small discs, 4x110mm, +20 offset using studs (I assume you mean studs that screw into the hub, as opposed to nuts that screw onto a bolt).

'81-'83 Series 2 - Solid & small discs same as S1, 4x110mm, +20 offset, using studs.

'84-'85 Series 3 - Vented & bigger discs, 4x114.3mm, +38 offset, not sure on the studs or bolts.

Front = Vented
Rear:
S3 and GSL-SE = Vented
The rest = solid rear discs.

Sorry, you're right... I meant vented. The S1 and S2 are the same size though at 228mm.

I don't know what I was thinking (or if I was thinking).
