Help?!?

Hey guys, here is another no start problem...this thing has never been easy to start since I bought it November. Granted I'm not driving it at the moment (its my summer car), and the previous owner had it parked for a few years. The engine is new (under 10000km on it from Mazda in Cali). Anyway I figured out my OMP wasn't working so I premixed. I've had it running since premixing, but I went to move it the other day and it wouldn't start. I figured because I had just had it idling my plugs were dirty (which they were) so I cleaned them and still no start. Then I figured flooded, so after waiting 24+ hours I tried to start it again and still no go. The engine turns over fine...but just won't catch. I know they're not particularly great cold starters...but I know many people drive them in the winter. When I crank it over in my garage I can smell fuel...not sure if it's out of the carb or out of the exhaust but either way I know it's getting fuel. As I said I cleaned the plugs so spark should be ok...Any suggestions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated (or we just might have another RX-7 running around with a Ford 5L in it)

Thanks very much,

Brendan.

you can also pull the fuse labeled "engine" (if you have a non GSL-SE) that will shut off your fuel pump. hold the pedal to the floor and crank it a couple times for ~4 secs. Replace the fuse and it should be good (if it was flooded).

are you getting spark??

I'm confident I'm getting spark...namely because it was sputtering slightly...even started a couple of times but died out...this was before I cleaned the plugs...since that nothing...but I figure it's flooded. It's really starting to get on my nerves. I have a GS (carbed) where is this fuse you speak of to turn off the fuel pump. I did have half an idea to do that but had no idea where the fuse was.

do you have the plug wires in the correct order? The front coil is trailing (T) and the back is leading (L). On the motor, the front top plug is T1 and the rear top is T2.

I'm sure...unless they were wrong when I bought the car...which doesn't seem likely since when it does start it idles/runs fine. I did them one at a time just so I wouldn't screw it up. Where is that fuse you mentioned earlier for the fuel pump?

i had a problem a lot like the one you are talking about. It would turn over fine and would sputter after a frew seconds... but would never start. My distributer cap was all shot out. That was my problem, it might not be yours, but it soulds just like what mine was doing

well, what i would do is deflood it, then, all that cranking may have drained the battery significantly, so take it to get charged (i know autozone will do it for free). hell, take out the plugs, go charge the battery, and by the time the battery is good and you pick it up, the gas should have evaporated. i had a really bad starting/flooding problem once, and thats how i fixed it

thanks for the info...I just read your post now but that's exactly what I did last night. I had the battery charging...and took out the plugs cleaned them and cranked...also my buddy who was helpin out noticed the choke was stuck...even though the **** worked the choke plate wasn't moving...I never noticed this as it's hard to see from inside the car when the choke is applyed and you're turning the key. Anyway put the plugs back in and she fired right up and I took it out for a good boot. Thanks for all the suggestions everybody
