sounds to me like a spark problem, or another type of electrical problem to cause your 7 to die on you like that...I'm not really sure what to say about the lurching forward other than it sounds to me like your clutch is shot or at least pretty well nearing it.

no start

As far as the dying goes, was it in nuetral when it died or in gear and it lurched forward and died? As far as the clutch problem, check the hydraulics first, ie, fluid in the clutch master, is it empty? Have there been any strange noises from the
trans area when the pedal is let out? When it comes to the no start, it all goes down to the basics, does it have spark, does it have fuel? Give more details on this

Yeah... When it died, did you get a bit of a lurch forward? I'm assuming it's a manual tranny, and not a slushbox. It sounds like you're stuck in gear. Ordinarily, I'd blame the clutching part of the system, but you're saying that with the engine not rotating, you still had a hard time getting her into first? Lurching forward when you try to start can only really be caused by the transmission being in some sort of gear. What's really odd about that, though, is that if it was the clutch that lunched itself, pulling the car out of gear should allow the car to start. If it was something in the shifter forks or something else internal to the gearbox, you'd be able to get it going with the clutch disengaged. Unless, of course, one or the other went out and took the other with it.

Try this: With the car sitting on level ground (or, heck, on an incline would be even easier), put the clutch in and let off the brakes. Does it roll? Try it in and out of gear. If it won't even roll, I think you'd better jack her up and pull the gearbox off. At that point, you can peer into the tranny and see what's going on there (look for metal in the oil when you drain it, pre-removal), and you'll have a good view of the clutch.

If you had it in gear, and your foot on the clutch, and it lurched forward when it stalled, like the Doctor said, check the hydraulics, clutch slave cylinder, and clutch master cylinder.

I don't know of a checking procedure for these other than looking for leaking fluid.
Does it roll, and the engine run out of gear?

running problem

Lets seperate the problems first. Leave the tranny in neutral and start the vehicle, does it run and stay running with no issues? rx7doctor

running problem

First of all lets clarify that the vehicle listed in your post is a efi 84se, correct? If you start it up, will it take any throttle before it dies, or does it barely run then die?
Looking for a air/fuel problem here. Need to verify that you have proper fuel pressure and volume, fuel pump may have gone out. The afm may be bad, if you turn the key to the on posistion and go back to where the fuel pump is located at the left rear frame and hear it running before you actually go to start it, the afm is defective. Another one problem that is very rare but happens is that the distributor
rotor is defective and grounding itself and causing a crossfire which will cause the
same sympton. rx7doctor
