Hello everybody

I'm new to the club. I'm a member of MNPOC, the Minnesota Probe Owners Club and I'm thinking about purchasing a 1st gen rx7. This car is for sale by owner in my town.

There is one BIG problem with the car as I see it...

Someone swapped out the rotary for a v6... Is this a common maneuver??

it's an 84, good condition. I havn't had a chance to talk with the owner yet...

but I took a few pictures.

lemme know what you think!

Thanks guys.

if someone's taken out the rotary and dropped in a V-6, there's no telling what else was mongreled on that car.

At least a V-8 swap makes detroit-iron sense.

IMHO you might want to look for an unmolested (rotary powered) RX-7 for your first one.

well......... nice body! i HATE the v6!!!!!!!! however, i know we can get you turned around to the rotary. i'd say if you can get it for around 1000 bucks go for it, but without the rotary, it just is half an rx-7 in my opinion.

I was looking on the web last night for rotes and I found a couple decent sites that sell them...

I found a 3rd gen 13b turbo for about $3,000...

will this fit in the engine compartment?
or am I stuck with a 12a?

it will fit. but i dont think the turbos will. i think you have to go to a single turbo set up. and a 13b tranny would be advised.

not to mention you need all the wiring and computer to run that motor.

o yea and a fuel pump. and other things i cant think of off the top of my head right now.. at work im only 1/8 alive lol.

12a's have lots of potenial. also you can drop a 13b in then get a carb set up and theres no wiring harness to deal with. its a lot easyer than going to FI.

thx guys...

I was thinking about putting alot of money into my probe (mazdaspeed all around baby)

But if I get this, the probe might become the beater...

$3000 for the engine though... that's twice what I'll pay for the car if I buy it.

you are not stuck with the 12a. do a search on the forum to find out how to convert your car to the rew. there are a ton of posts on how to do it. if you ask, others will tell you to do the same.

for note, rew means rotary engine double turbo. the w is actually two v's together and mazda says to them it means twin turbo.

thx for the input... it'll take me prolly 2-3 months to totally catch on. it took me a while to catch on to everything about the probe.

the difference in the klze engine and the fs series. and the first gen fe3 conversion that Matt faul did. he's running 11 second quarters in a 1st gen probe!! WOOT!!

anyhoo. I'll start saving my pennies up I guess...
