Hello all! Just a few questions about where to spend my money...

Hey, I know I haven't been on in a while (if at all for that matter haha) but now, as I have recently come into a small pile of cash, would like to ask your advice.

My dad recently acquired an 84 GSL and the 79 is now completely under my name , plus I'm back at school and got my scholarship money, and I would just like to know your opinions on where to spend it!

I know some money is going to be spent on rust repair and paint, but lets say I have about $800 to spend on other parts, what should I invest in?

Carb, exhaust, fuel pump and regualtor? Suspension bits? Or even restoration?
Can I even assemble a nice bit of horsepower adders (new and/or used) for around that price?

(This is the section where I point out that I did not utilize the search button to the full extent)

Thanks again!
-R.J.-

Just spend enough to keep it running and focus on your school! I drove an 81 Rx-7 through high school and college, that car was a testament to how much abuse these little cars can take!

On mine, I'm going with slotted rotors, ss brake lines, new brake cylinders, bushings, and shocks/springs. That's just me though. Figured it would be a good support before adding more power to mine. Then I'll be doing weather stripping on the doors, sound mat/insulation(redone). I'll wrap it up with the mariah widebody, wheels, and paint to backup the motor swap.

Focus on my school! Lol. I hear ya on that one, at least schools easy/fun up here. So far I have a 3.6 cumulative, which is where this random scholarship I didn't even sign up for came from haha.
This summer I know I'll be buying things for my rex, including a clutch, but I do not, I repeat, DO NOT, drive my car at school after September lol. Theres so much snow up here that it would just rust away the car! My winter car is my 92 Volvo, but my dad drives the 7 once a week to work so that keeps it nice and driving.

Edit: I go to Frostburg State University in western MD

I would start with suspension, get a good set of shocks and struts, as well as some good coils. They will not only improve perfomance, but they will significantly improve the look of the car. Since a decent setup usually costs between 400-500$ I would also get some exhaust work done to improve flow and give you a little more power. This is all under the assumption that the car has recently had a tune up and is in good runing order.

Save it. Believe me, you will know when to buy something for it, like when your carb craps out and need a rebuild... or only fire on the leading plugs and need a new ignitor...

A Sterling Nikki is half of what you got there Or a RE-Speed rack conversion is about a grand, save for a bit and improve your steering drastically. or what the other guys said, brakes, suspension, definitly some exhaust work.

Much appreciated information! After viewing http://www.pbandjracing.com/carb_faq.html and http://www.sterlingmetalworks.com/index.htm, I am quite excited to look into this improvement. I have the opportunity to get a strut, spring, and sway bar combo out of a wrecked 84 for $500, but the guy is unsure as to who makes each part, but he does know that they are not stock (kinda sketchy if you ask me). Either way, the carb set up is a definite possibility, and I will be contacting pbandj this week. I have a Pacesetter header (it was free so I can't complain... much), and straight piping back to a Ford Fiesta muffler (screw you mieneke for not carrying my muffler!! Life of the car replacement my *** haha). If I do end up purchasing the carb, I will be redoing the exhaust also.

Thanks again guys
