Heatwrap???

alright...i'm looking for pro's vs. cons. i know it helps lower engine bay temps and makes the exhaust easy to handle etc etc. but i've also heard that it can trap in water that splashes up from the road and it'll sit in there and corrode your headers faster.

i figured that the exhaust is hot enough to just evaporate all the water that may get soaked up by the heat wrap but the person i was talking to was pretty set in their ways about this. any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

I just wrapped my RB header with exhaust wrap. I have wrapped stainless headers in the past. The stainless headers held up well. I have a friend that wrapped his hooker/hedman/ or whatever header and they did quickly rust out.

I feel that the Mazda RB header is thick enough that it will last...

I do really like the cooler under hood temp and the fact that you cannot burn your fingers on hot *** headers!!

wrapping the header had nothing to do with it glowing red how and popping a hole through it. his timming was off and running too lean that's the only thing that can cause a car's header to glow red hot. And the hot header is what caused the failure.

To the original poster. SEARCH!!!!! this question gets asked almost every month and there are a few recent threads about it....

I disagree. I bought a used RB header that was wrapped. The heat wrap was falling apart so I took it off and theres a lot of flaking of metal that looked a lot like that guys pic minus the crack. His timing must be off or hes running lean or both for it to glow red. But the heat wrap does deterate the header faster. I'm just going to build a heat shield for mine. I don't want my header to fall apart.

BTW its very hard to search for these things since these questions get asked so much and all people do is say search. So theres 200 threads and only 1 has the answer to the question.

mine never did and it was used daily for over a year.. i'm not saying his timing wasnt off but i am saying that perhaps the heat buildup under the wrap helped contribute to it cracking.
