*NEW* project "Cheap Autocrosser" update
Folks a few of you might remember a thread I started a couple of months back where I bought an old retired 1984 ITA Club racer car off craigslist for CHEAP....
Well the car is doing well and has raced 3 events so far.
Yesterday we went to a BMW sponsored autocross event where not only BMW's but "others" can race as well.
I brought along my buddy who is a "seasoned" driver in C- prepared. We co-drived the car. I would make a lap, he would make a lap.
The car ran 15 full runs back to back without any problems. No overheating even in the 100 degree heat we were in!
Well my friend took 1st place in our class and I took 2nd place!! We beat out some Nissan 350Z's in our class. The closest 350Z was on race rubber and we still beat him by 3 seconds.
Looking back I was enamored by the cars this Cheap Junker took out!! I probably have less than $1000 complete "ready to race" in this car.
The kill list for the day (Cars the RX-7 was faster than) include:
7 Mini Coopers
8 "M" class BMW's
Porsche Cayman
Dodge Viper
Mazda speed 3
Subaru STI
Lotus Elise
Mazda Miata
Honda Prelude
2 Honda Civic SI's
It was a hit of the day because it obviously is not in show condition and was really doing well.
Next I will purchase some caster/camber plates and will upgrade to Hoosier A6 tires.

Very nice! I've got a few Viper and Elise kills under my belt as well. Its always nice to pound on the money cars with an old beater powered by 1100CCs.
I've considered painting the kills on the front fender (ala WWII fighter pilots), but figured I'd quickly run out of room.

Lol ... Aaron on the forum here has stickers that are perfect for the job. I can't remember where he said he picked them up from but here's what they look like ... sorry for the crappy quality. Its a picture of a car with an X in the center. Simple small and effective I suggested we should have some make out of magnets and everytime you kill somebody you have to give your piece to them. Would be a nice game.

Yeah, well Porsche can't brag either. If I was keeping track, my door would be covered with their emblems. What are their emblems, anyway? I don't think I've killed any Ferraris yet, but that would be pretty cool...

You know i might want to incorporate that into the paint scheme. My autocross car is a collection of junk, old stuff, newer stuff and more junk!!! It is meant to be fun!
I need to do some form of paint scheme to it and I want to do it cheaply.
I love rat rods....do you guys think it would look tooo stupid to do the "rat rod" look on my project cheap autocrosser??
I think it would be fun to mix a little old school racer meets rat rod.... You know something that will get attention at the events.
Something like satin black or flat paint.....red painted steel wheels (already have the wheels and they are black) old school "round circle back ground" with black race numbers on the door...full rat rod pin stripe package.....hell I might even cover my race seat with Mexican blankets!!!
Any ideas....I want the cool/shock factor!!
Anyone on the forum that can photoshop a photo of an RX-7 with this scheme??

It would look awesome! I vote go for it, the Mexican blanket would be an awesome touch.
I'd steal your idea and use it on my V8 FB, it would be appropriate, but my factory paint is still looking pretty nice

Well I have started sanding down the car and getting ready for some form of paint. Got most of the car sanded and will do some body filler on some small spots this weekend.
Still thinking about what I will do with the paint.
I will take pictures and post progress!
