heater question, didi break something?

so yeah new car, changed the oil and plugs etc and the car gives out awesome heat.

then this rubber cap burst and lost all my coolant

so changed the cap, new thermostat, and filled the coolant up...
and now...

no great heat output anymore..

any ideas?

Maybe it was low on coolant before, thus making all the coolant overly hot and giving off more heat, but now its full to the proper level, the water temperature is correct and not as hot, thus giving off less heat?

EDIT: What "rubber cap" by the way?

rubber cap

that is a possibility but the engine running temp on thegauge has not changed...

which is really low on my temp gauge too.. but it must been normal since when the coolant boiled off via the hole that was capped the temp gauge climbed all the way to the red.

teh rubber cap, or stopper or hose end..
well below the oil filter ( my oil cooler is under the rad) there is a pipe that ends at a T fitting

one end has a hose attached that leads to the heater in the cockpit.

the other end has this 3/4" rubber end clamped on to it.

I ahven't found a photo or a diagram of it and when i have tried describing it to others they didnt know what i was talking about

the rubber end was old rubber which cracked and finally tore, thus draining offf the coolant.

replaced and refilled the coolant and its all good again..

accept the heat isnt as hot.

is there anything other than the heater gauge that would affect how hot the system can get?

Well, I was gonna say that your car originally had the beehive oil cooler and after swapping it someone capped that T off with a cap since its no longer needed. Thats what I did btw. But according to your profile your car is a 82 and the beehive didn't come until 83 so you got me on that one. I assume your positive its an 82 right?

pretty sure

I suppose i can search the VIN...

but it was sold to me as an 82 and it was sold to the last person as an 82

besaides if the oilcooler had been moved would the beehive cooler have piping that ran from the engine's cooling system?

its odd
and given its now below 0 c outside and i have no garage i havent spent much time under the car

The beehive used engine coolant to "cool" the oil, did a real shitty job, but it took coolant from the Tee off the engine and then dumped it into another Tee on the hard water line on the passenger side of the car. Its also possible that at some point a 83-85 engine was swapped into your car and they retained the air oil cooler thus having to plug that Tee. Its really hard to say, I can try to get a shot of mine tomorrow to confirm we are talking about the same thing.

Sounds like someone put a 83-85 engine in your 82 chassis, and just capped off the line for the beehive.

yea thats what i was thinking. I can't really get a good shot from the top of it. If I have time later on I'll jack it up and shoot from underneath.

The reason you got no heat is because you had low coolant. Without enough coolant your car will still run and cool properly but not enough coolant is getting into your heater core. Top it off and you should be fine. Also you might have air in your system so run it and bleed it off.
