Heater air distribution problem

Have an 85 SE that up until just recently had fully functional vent,bi-level,heat and defrost modes. Just completed some underhood a/c repair work and while evaluating cool air output observed no mode change when any button is pushed. Currently air comes out all dash vents and the vents in lower dash below steering column and glovebox. Lights in each respective button illuminate when selected, switch(es) feel like they always have. Used to be able to hear motor cycle between modes when key on/engine off,now no noise. Crawling under dash on right side, mode motor can be observed/touched,nothing happening. Recirculate button/motor work fine-can visually verify operation. A/c button next to that also functional. Used to work on these cars when new,do not recall ever having to diag/repair any 84/85 1st gens. for this problem. 2nd gens, seemed quite often as memory serves, both Logicon &control motor problems. Faulty motors taking out Logicon, etc. Diagnostic/test info seems scarce, trying to work smart before tearing into dash as car soon going into bodyshop and this may have to wait til car is back from paint. Have checked all fuses,relays-npf. Harnesses under hood and underdash look as new, unmolested. I am 2nd owner of this car,has been well cared for and very reliable. Looking for some input, thoughts, solutions to this problem, possibly by others that have dealt with this issue. Thanks

P.S. recently car took a good hit in R.rear 1/4 panel, not certain how this could be connected to heater issue. P/antenna works fine as do all lights defroster,wiper/washer on back of car.

Just finished putting car back together, everything operational now. Thank you jdmminot for your reply and the link. Thanks also KansasCity Repu for the link. The problem was the same contact that came loose in your pic jdmminot. Took me several sessions to r&r and repair. Have had several neck/spinal surgeries over course of many years for pain, with limited ability to turn my head neck and crawl under dash,no where near as flexible as when was younger. Most certain will pay for this in coming days, but worth it to complete list of things needed to be finished so can go off to body shop. Of course had to take it for an extended road test to check out my a/c...... Love this site, wealth of information/knowledge here.
