headlight stuck up (searched)
Before i go out and start buying parts and throwing them at the car blindly, i'd like to get some advice from you guys on here. Sorry for bringing back up a common problem. My passenger headlight motor will raise the light assembly, but 99% of the time, will not bring it back down, it just stays up. Possible causes i've heard of are --- loose/corroded ground, bad relay/solenoid in the motor itself, or corroded wiring harness. My reason for posting this, as a repost is, because i have had the headlight lower itself 4 or so times electriclly, so i'd like to kno the most possible causes for this. Thanks alot for your help!

Terrified.
Have you checked the connections and everything yet? It sounds to me like it is just really bad connections that sometimes conduct enough to work (maybe when warmed up or something). Then again I know next to nothing about wiring.

You guys have checked your electrical connections at the headlight assembly themselves right? Being out in the engine bay, gets all that stuff pretty dirty and corroded easlily. chances are you have a dirty/bad ground or simply a corroded plug. Pull it all apart and put some dielectic grease in there, try it and go from there.

have you tried manually cranking it down?...and then starting your car and bringing them up again...if they both come up but only one goes down again...you might have a gear problem in the headlight motor...if it goes up but doesn't go down again just replace it!!

Kgray, I forgot to talk with you about the headlight thing when I met you. On the connector there are 4 wires. On the drivers side, there is 1 connection with 2 wires going into it (5 wires). Basically the driver side is "master" and the passenger side is "slave". I am willing to bet if you replace the abnormally thin wire going from driver to pass side, it will help solve your problem. The wire seems to be so thin that it doesnt take much corrosion to kill it. Also I think, since it is so small it is really easy to have that wire be cut or damaged enought that nothing can get through. If you hook up a volt meter to the wires you will see that when the headlights go down this wire goes positive and then stops once it hits its resting point. I different wire goes positive when going up until hitting resting point. Youll probably have questions about this so feel free to post here or PM me. I can maybe snap some pics and try to help explain the best I can.
This is what the problem was on a friends car. We figured this all out after swapping headlight motors, cleaning contacts, scratching our heads multiple times, and not getting anywhere.

had to do that once myself...but I never even thought about it until you mentioned it...I would agree with IanS, check the wire...if it looks okay just replace it anyway...all it takes is a small pin ***** for the water to get in and corroded the wire from the inside out...

thanks for all your help. Took out a voltometer, and found that the Red with yellow stripe, the wire that sends a signal to the motors to retract was not getting any reading on the passenger side, just as IanS had said. So i spliced into the drivers Red Yellow wire, and ran this wire over to the passenger red yellow, and spliced in here. Works great now! thanks again for the help
