Headlight conversions on eBay--Any feedback?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33710

That link is to one of several sellers of the same product. Has anyone bought and installed this kit yet? I'm wondering how it compares to the Hella kit.

Thanks,

-dave

Hrm, Crystal...

I think I've tried to mail a seller of one of the products like that before. My biggest concern with them is not the color (although the Type 'R' stock Hondas might stalk you) but the fact it says only that they are European Style...

... Europeans allow all sorts of things on lights that the US DOT will *not* approve, and the last thing I want is another reason for cops to notice my RX-7 (aside from the blue smokescreen it leaves at each red light).

I have never gotten an answer... but definately ask for DOT approval before buying such an obvious upgrade. Most aftermarket kits are very bold about putting that on them, if they are legal.

A buddy of mine picked up a similar kit for his MR2 turbo, he said he could barely see, and this was compared to his old dim stock lights.

He eventually dropped the cash for a Hella sealed beam conversion. It was a little pricey, but the difference was amazing, aside from hids, he has the brightest headlights Ive seen

Looks to me like the blue lighting is supplied by light bulbs separate from the main lamp. That suggests the blue is removable. Primarily, I want a lower cost alternative to the Hella conversion.

I have those on my car, but with regular "white" bulbs. Muuuuuch better than stock.

I also have them and kept the blue lights. WAY brighter than stock, but you could use a normal H4 bulb (same plug style so no need to change that) and it would no longer be blue.

Are you guys (IanS & DF) talking about this same kit from eBay, or something similar from someplace else?

Like I said earlier, it looks to me from the pics on the auction that the blue lightbulb is separate from the H4 bulb. Am I seeing it wrong, and the blue tint is only from the H4 bulb?

Thanks,

-dave

Yes, the blue tint is from the H4 bulb. BUT, know this. Also (hard to see in pic) is a 944 bulb (might not be right number). You know, the small ones that light up the dash and also are in alot of map lights. Anyways, the way that it gets the "halo", or "angel eye" look is from that 944 bulb. It is also blue btw. I did not hook it up as i didnt feel the need. I have some pics of it installed if you want to see. I bought mine from ebay and look identical to the link. PM me and I can send you the pic. It is too big to shrink down and post here.

Looks like Pilot Motorsports makes a kit that JCWhitney sells:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/...0101&langId=-1

$39.99, which the eBay kits have beat by $5 on average--shipped, which isn't included in the JCWhitney quote.

On a related note, I just received some Pilot Motorsports blue silicone vacuum hose that I bought off eBay. Good stuff.

-dave

Correction: JCWhitney has free shipping through today (26th).

I would recommend just getting some sylvannia's from kragen and adding some fog lights - as those conversions kits look like low quality ones. Once I added the fog lights on my seven - I noticed a big difference in visibility. http://www.cardomain.com/id/topgunm2k

Yeah, but I don't have an AM airdam to hide 'em in. I dislike the dangling bucket type of foglights.

I might go with the JCWhitney set, as I don't like seeing the little blue bulb in the housing. I'll make a decision today sometime.

Thanks,

-dave

I went ahead and bid on the eBay kit. The JCWhitney kit didn't include H4 bulbs.

i got some off ebay (my 1 neg. feed back, the *******) ad they were to deep, i had to cut out the back of the light housing so the deeper bulb would fit right... On a + i did like the exeon bulbs they show off a nice bright light... i just didnt hook up the little blue bulb so it was just a plug in the housing.

$28.59 before shipping. Judging by the kanji on the box, it's from a Japanese manufacturer. They look like the nicest non-Hella option yet. Too bad I already bought the eBay variety.

Nevermind, the shipping is $18.33, bringing the grand total to $46.92. Gotta love those dishonest price listings.

Still, it being Japanese, it may be on par quality-wise with the Hella kit.
