Headlight conversion

Does anyone know of anyway to convert the headlights so i no longer have fliplights, like some sort of projection lights... god forbid i use this example, but like the rx in fast and furious... i don't like fliplights and the bug eyed thing really bothers me.

search. there was 2 threads about 2 weeks ago on it. im not sure what they came up with, but in one of them, the lights were converted to dual lights in each assembly, and only popped up half the height, it was really badass looking.

I saw that too and didn't really like the style of it, but it was a huge improvement, i'm talking about actual projection lights.

Check out http://www.rx7v8.com/
They make a complete body kit for 1st gen rx7 which uses 1999 miata headlight assemblies. It's pricey for the whole kit but maybe you can just get the front clip.

The roof line still gives it away as a 1st gen rx7.
And I like po-up headlights- it gives the car so much character- something missing from almost all new cars. Pop ups were originally introduced in this country to allow cars designed for european lighting specs to meet U.S. standards. U.S. standards had a minimum headlight hieght (to prevent reflected glare- think about those 'fopg lights' people install right at the ground on their front air dam), so cars with low noses were fitted with pop-up headlights.

Yeah, sorry. I can ramble on and on about stuff nobody even asked about sometimes (just call me CLiff). But on topic, I have never seen and fixed headlight kits for 1st gen RX7s. Maybe you could just take some plexiglass and make some covers to put in place of the pop-ups, and mount some small HID lamps underneath (two each, side by side)? Shouldn't be too hard to fabricate from scratch. You could even make the headlight cover, and new healight mounts as one piece to make it easier to install (like an unsealed headlight). Or you could experiemnt with damaged (so they are dirt cheap, and if you get something that works, then get some good ones) unsealed headlights from he junkyard- something flat like 3000gt or Celica headlamps might be able to be modded to fit in the opening and still work. ANybody have any pix of fixed headlight 1st gens?

edit...

I just noticed how flat and square the SUnfire's headlights are.

hmmmm... . . .. .

A similar mod has been done by many owners of 93-97 Ford Probes. Cut clear plexiglass as a cover and mount HID projection lights (one each side or two pair) underneath. Kind of gives a 300zx look.

Another popular mod is to make the headlights pop up only about a third of the way with projectors in there- the "sleepy eyes" mod. Undoubtedly someone has figured out how to do this on a 1st gen RX-7 as well.

possible RX7 headlight mods

Ok, here is my guess of what a 1st gen rx7 looks lkike with clear plexi over singel HiD lamps:

.and here is my idea for using the headlamp openings for ducts (intake and/or brake), and mounting HiD lamps in the mirror housings:

I don't claim to even know WHAT the DOT wants, but a 1st gen with headlamps in the mirrors would still have headlamps below even a stock height Dodge Ram. And I have wanted this to happen on a productions car for many years. Why? Because having the headlights close to the driver's eye level gives him MUCH better vision over hills at night, and having the headlights farther apart gives better depth vision. The only prob could be reflected glare to oncoming traffic from the hood/fenders.

How about moving the headlight back to use the full lens?

And you can make a duct above that which will be closer to your air filter.

I think the mirror idea is great, but, I looks like someone poked it's eyes out. Kind of weird looking.
