headers and presilencers

Hey I don't know if I have a 6-port or 4-port, now it's a GSLSE that has a carbed 13B. Got to www.cardomain.com/id/mazdagslse to check it out and try and figure it out, I don't want to take the manifold off to see what it is cause I'm scared to mess with the engine. I got a muffler already. Yea yea I know it's a fart tube but hey I like em so NAH. Now as you can see it has a header, it's a road race header but it has a thing on the end that takes dual header end to a single outlet. I was also wondering if it has to have that backpressure thing on the presilencer cause the stupid exhaust on it is 3 resonators to a midas exhaust that makes my car sound like a 4-wheeler. what can I do?

The manifold seems to be a 4-port manifold which means the motor is 4port. A closer picture of the lower manifold will be better to make sure it is 4port.

OK I looked at the pictures. Definitely a 4-port using the 12A housings or early 13B housings

You don't need a backpressure tube because you don't have anything aux ports to activate. Those are on the 6-port housings.

What exhaust setup you want is determined by your needs. Do you want the most high end? High end power is usually created by not letting the exhaust pulses merge until later, which is why the road race header has two outlets. You could even run 2 presilencers to 2 mufflers and not let them ever merge!

What is your plan for the car?

well since the header is on it and the 2-1 peice I'm throwing a presilencer on it 2" or 2 1/2" to a single inlet daul outlet muffler, kinda looks like the n1 exhaust for the fds....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2463636001 thats the muffler. I also am going to give it a paint job sometime. Fix the oil pan gasket, sometime hopefully change the gear lube oil in the differential and tranny. upgrade the speakers.....eventually turbo somehow. And more stuff which I dont' know or can't think of. What do yall think of the exhaust?

Rotary Engineering headers....thats a good one to get because it can be use either on a 12-A or 13-B (just cut the rear flange)

I don't understand where you got bogged down. Prsilencers run between the header & muffler. The header replaces the exhaust manifold. The presilencer(s) replaces the catalytic.

If I were you I would just throw a second gen presilencer (its bigger) and a hi-flow cat between your header and your muffler.. it makes for a nice note and doesn't sound like a four wheeler. That is what is on my car. Sounds really good. This will have to be done by a muffler shop, because you have to cut the header flange off and reweld it at an angle, because with the bigger presilencer it throws it into the driveshaft.. But that is my setup and I love it.. just a suggestion though.

bogged down? speak english bro. Ok for everyone not understanding the exhaust. I already have a header on it. I'm going to put the presilencer onto the header, well gonna have to be custom, then I'm doing 2 1/2 inch piping to the muffler. Man I'm getting confused. I also need my carburetor completely tuned, my car is running like ****. I know how it runs cause of the shaking and the speed and horses and all that pretty stuff. It's just not getting enough air right now. Backfiring a lot too, never did that before. SOo once I get all this down I should be able to feel the street port to it's FULL extint.
