Header Users: Dual or single belt??

Hi Rotor Heads-
going to install my RB header soon and am curious who has installed - or NOT - the dual pulley belt systems to drive the water pump and alt after the air pump is pulled?? I have heard some say the single works fine and others say that there is too much belt slippage with a single belt and the w/pump can't crank like it needs to...
appreciate hearing the experiences from both sides on this-

Every FB I have ever been around has had a header and run a single belt without any trace of a problem. Ever.

Maybe on a race car that spent all it's time in the red line would slipping be an issue. If that's your plan then a duel belt might be a good precaution.

On a street/autox or light track car a single is just fine.

Or find a smaller lawnmower belt to accomodate the water pump. I need to find another one, mine doesn't offer enough tension.

Dual pulley, but not the under drive kind. This is only if you have done the 2nd gen alternator change, as it will not fit a 1st gen alternator. www.rotaryinnovation.com

They stopped making the dual belt pulleys for the FD alts I guess it's cause the FD guys would have no use for them, it's SPECIFICALLY for us 1st genners, so there wasn't enough demand.

Oh well, I got one before they ran out!

I got one for my alt. 79, but apparently, there's a difference between SA's and FB's. The diameter of the hole for the alt. shaft was too small (by just a little bit), so I tried to open it up a bit with a file. Bad idea. I didn't do it evenly enough and it spins all crooked now.

So i'm rocking the single right now with no problem.

Either option works fine, results between the 2 are similiar. The yoohoo belt is cheaper and it can be hard to find 2 belts that have the identical circumferences for dual belt pulley.

If you want to go with an automotive grade belt, check your NAPA store for the 3L220 ( think that's the right number. I just went in and asked for a 22 inch belt.) It's 22 inches long and fits well on my car with good tension. That way you're not using an inferior quality belt while still getting the advantages of proper contact for water pump operation.

Hey, just so you know, Pineapple Racing has just come up with a "new and improved" version of the Yoohoo (lawn mower) belt. I bought and received one and hope to put in on next week. Click the link.

I run the double under drive style from racing beat. I bought it mainly for the looks, but it seams to work fine. The belt diameter is off slightly, but I have not noticed anything bad as a result. It's a 12a with no air pump.
