header options?

i spoke with my mechanic (steve hayes - same hayes, different shop). he mentioned that if i got a RB header, i'd have to change out the rest of the exhaust system since they intentionally made it so it doesn't bolt up to the stock system.

are there any other options? i have a RB midpipe that replaced my stock cats. all else is stock. i was wondering if there'd be an option where i can bolt the header up to the stock system...

A header that bolted to the stock system would be too short.

dule exi=oust

Question what would it take to put a duel exhaust on an 1987 GXL? A header and at least two per silencers with aux. port
tubes. What Muffler would be quite but not to restricting ?

The '79-80 RB header (as well as the Pacesetter) bolt up directly to the factory heat exchanger. I was happy to see that Too bad the heat exchanger is so restrictive.

Bruce, try the 2nd-gen forum.

RB sells a mini-presilencer that replaces it

What i did was buy a 2.5" Race Ready, cut it to the same length as the heat exchanger, made a couple flanges, and welded those in place. It wasn't any louder because I eliminated two major exhaust leaksa (the H.E. flanges were badly rusted and would not seal to gaskets) and the power improvement was noticeable on the street, VERY noticeable on the track

I could have done the same thing with just a regular pipe, but that's not as obnoxious

I will, but it never hurts to get the opinion of other rotor heads, that is unless there heads are just to full or narrow. BTW I plan on putting Duel
exhaust on my first gen GSL-SE as well. PS did
(se)- Bruce just slip right past you. < GBG >
