hanging out with the COPS...they were cool and love 1st gen
I went to test out the suspension and braking yesterday on the city streets. I drove a bit fast but not recklessly, yet I got stopped by the police while waiting at a light. The cool part is that since I knew I wasn't pushing it "too much" I knew they had stopped me for another reason. The car is an attention getter now, full roll cage, no interior and that flame throwing exhaust, still is street legal and tagged.
I moved the car and parked it next to the cop car. First officer said to pop the hood. I was like WTF? but I kind of knew...he was like what is it a 13B or a 12a...I'm like ok here we go...I thought them (8 cops) about rotaries and all the mods I got done. They were impressed and told me to go ahead and test the car on a particular street. I was like no no, it's a bit noisy and I don't want to wake up the neighbors, but they really really wanted to see the car running. They knew that the car is getting set for the upcoming race and knew that I was being a cool sport about it.
Damn I was so into explaining everything that when I got to see the time I had been there talking to them for about 30 minutes.
On the way to my shop I saw the patrol car and they flashed the lights and waved, one cop even took out his hand and waved meaning to push it...I kind of tapped the gas in second to break the rear end loose and they were like yeaaahh...that was increadible.
moral of the story, cops are human and know when one is doing something illegal, being straightforward and polite can both change the opinions of cops against supposedly bad drivers/racers and the other way around.
needless to say it was a fun night...

I used to pull over nice 1st gens all the time, and ask them to show me the goods under the hood.

Although, I'd have to say that some of the cops around here aren't that nice. I guess you're just lucky.

Damn, i wish i had some cool cops like that around here. The best i get is people comming into work and asking, whos rx7 is that. Which is fun because the guy i work with hates rotaries. But its a mutual hate, one day he reached under my hood and somehow the spark plug arced and shocked the hell out of him. My car has a mind of its own.

I was taught very early - If I turn on the Christmas Tree, you get the present (the ticket). That way you can never say you pulled anybody over for no reason. The reason is written all over the ticket.
Besides, I never pulled over girls. Back when I was in good shape, they came up to me.

Don't stereotype Law enforcement, You wouldn't like to be stereotyped for driving an import, rotary, "punk" type of car, etc.
Unfortunately, there is always that 10% (in any field of employement) that give it a bad name for the rest of us.

Always wanted a Lightning with a back seat.
The 2002 Harley's came with a slightly detuned lightning engine.
I fell in love with the Dark Shadow Grey (I am painting Project Kramer the same color)
It ran a 13.9 in the 1/4 mile with only a couple of mods.
I FREAKING LOVE IT.

I've been re-doing some of the Haltech wiring to make it shorter/longer where needed to make it look right.
That's pretty much all that's left, It just takes time, and lately I've been having to travel alot for work.
Hopefully in March, I will have it off the jack-stands, and trailer it over to Crispeed's shop for him to give it a once-over before cranking it and tuning.
