I'm afraid I don't know Jack about carburated RX's, but I do know that it's important to use full choke when starting in cooler weather.

On the opposite end of the scale, it's also possible you overdid it with the choke and flooded it. Can you smell fuel? Let it sit a couple of hours and then try it again - but do not step on nor "pump" the accelerator. See if it starts. If not, check this link for "common starting problems" and "unflooding" procedures"... http://www.rx7.com/tech/index.html
Also, I've heard some people have found the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) technique mentioned in the article helpful for starting engines that have less than desirable compression during cold weather.

Hope it helps some...

Click on the link I gave you; then click on "12A Common Starting Problems"; then read the article on "Unflooding Procedures"...

1. turn key to on but not start to get the fuel pump going
2. pull choke out
3. pedal to the floor 2 times
4. should fire right up.... if not, you have other problems.

MIGHT want to combine all of these posts into one post next time Saves bandwidth, and people tend to not like post-whoring around here....

The EDIT feature is a task learned most quickly by those who browse the forum...

Just for future reference. Back right after I got my 1st gen I flooded it too. Badly I might add. And my car already hates cold weather. What did it for me was automatic transmission fluid (ATF). I'll put it in simple terms here...pop the top off the blue circular thing, and look down in the center. You should see 4 holes leading far down. Pour a cap full of ATF into each of the smaller 2 holes. Helps a bunch. Once it fires though, you'll need to add throttle to keep it going, but it clears in a few seconds (a decent bit of smoke too, don't worry about that).

Enjoy.

It helps, if it doesnt start automaticly, to turn the starter 5 times, then try and crank. works for me everytime.
