guide/tutorial for AC removal

I used the search feature and didn't find anything (maybe I searched for the wrong words ), but is there any guides or tutorials on how to remove the AC system/block whatever hoses it uses? The clutch on the AC is going out, and I think i'm just going to remove the whole unit and really start cleaning up the engine bay.

A/C removal really depends on whether you are enviromentally responsible and a conscientious collector of parts or, like me, you forget about the ozone layer and view 1st gen A/C parts (even working ones) as scrap. I use common household tools like hacksaws and boltcutters to rip that non-performance-related stuff out of my cars.

Haven't seen a How-To yet, but I could write one up if there's interest. If my new toy will run, that's the first mod it's getting. The second is the emmisions removal:

Just start disconnecting all the AC hoses and everything. Tear it all out. Don't worry about blocking off any hoses.

if it still has freon(r-12a) that destroys the ozone, dont let the neighbors see you do that they might call the epa. what the hell just vent it to the atmosphere j/k

It is extremely easy to uninstall all the AC stuff. I spent only 2 hours to remove "every" AC related components in the engine compartment while having fun and taking my time. After the job, you will notice you have a huge space between the bumper and the radiator. You would start thinking, how big of a intercooler can go in there.

One thing about the R-12, my system was totally dry. No pressure released when I disconnect the hoses. Only have small amount of compression oil remain in the system.

I think I have removed close to 40[ibs] off the car.

Anyhow, I will remove the remainning AC components in the passenger compartment behind the glove box.

Just be careful, if theres pressure ion the hoses, vent it slowly, it can cold burn you otherwise.
You can remove
1-compressor and its hoses
2- condenser, hoses and drier (located in front of the radiator, remove the top cover in front of the rad).
3- evaporator (location, under the dash, pass side, between the blower fan and the distrubution housing). But youll have to fab a duct to replce it or youll lose your blower.

thanks for all the replies... ignorant question... I can keep the blower but not have the A/C compressor right? So I can still blow hot air in my face as i'm driving?

You can also remove the cooling coils from that big black box and re-install it, or replace it with the nice lightweight duct from a non-A/C car.

Or you can just rip it all out and say **** it. J/K. The easiest thing to start with is the compressor located in the engine bay. Remove the one hose that goes to it from the condensor. It'll look like it's actually going into your radiator. It's not though. Then remove the hose going to the firewall. Use 2 wrenches to do this or else you'll bend and twist the firewall hose fitting. Then remove the compressor from the bracket which is attached to the motor. Remove the bracket last and chuck the heavy **** in a box and have a yard sale. Congratulations...you've just dumped about 35lbs off of your engine bay and if you get really greedy you can always remove the condensor and the weird crap on the passenger side. Sit back and have a beer or 2 first.

I don't agree... If there is freon in the system and it does blow cold, goto an A/C place and have them suck it out... That **** is pricey, so they may pay you well for it.
