GSL-SE's post what you have for a air filter setup

I'm trying to figure out if it is worth fabricating something or finding a replacement panel filter. Thanks!!

I bought the bonez intake from rx7.com like 8 years ago or so when I first got the car. The limitation is that stupid air meter so higher flow infront of it didn't make some huge improvement. IIRC in the stock airbox there was only a relatively small hole in the bottom to feed air to the motor so I imagine it helps somewhat at high RPM.

stock intake gets cold air, and really isnt a restriction.

Been there done that, the K&N panel is "as" if "not" more effective that doing the afm adapter & cone filter as it already functions as a cold air intake. To ditch the afm you need a standalone ($$$$$). Spend money on a full racing beat exhaust to see some improvements.

I already have a full exhaust...... I only paid 1k for a rx that has a gsl se drivetrain swap and a pretty decent interior and a full racing beat exhaust. Panel it is, though i've researched some and what is better K&N, Nippon, or Accell Kool Blue?

K&N is the standard in which all compare themselves to.

Being an old dog I can still remember the Ford Granada commercial asking "is that your Mercedes or my Granada". Duuuuuuuhhhh, I would take the mercedes over the Granada anytime, LOL

I cut open the stock airbox, dropped in a K&N and has a cool air duct from the from.

Aren't the GSL-SE air intakes somewhat different between the 1984 and 1985 model?

As far as I know the 54-85 SE's have the same intake set-up. I agree with the guys who opt to keep the stock air intake set-up. Just drop in the K&N and your done. It already is a cold-air intake set-up.

The 84s draw air basically right off the airbox, while the 85 had a snorkel tube that goes to the opposite side of the car and draws air from near the battery.

The 84s had a problem of water getting into the intake and messing up the AFM, the snorkel tube prevented this from happening on the 85s.

^ Interesting how often I 'hear' of that occuring, yet I never have had any problems whatsoever driving in the rain.

The 84's do have the same snorkel as the 85's but it stops halfway.
