GSL-SE starts fine then dies
GSL-SE starts fine then dies
Hey guys, I’ve see a few folks on here have a similar problem but no definitive answer. Just removed the rat’s nest on my SE, as well as run new fuel lines, new vacuum lines for the remainder of the components (fuel pressure regulator, distributor vacuum advance, and OMP lines). Blocked off ACV and cold start assist and not running the IACV at the moment. Went to start the car afterwards and had two issues. One was a huge amount of white smoke (car was not smoking prior to doing the work) and two was that it started, revved high (I figured this may because of needing to adjust everything) but then shut itself off after a few seconds as if the key had been turned off. I got a video as well

In your video you still seem to have all of the "rats nest" parts, and I hope you still do - because you're going to need them. By the time the 13b came out in the SE models, the emissions and advance controls were well defined and purpose built. The only components on the rail were a Vacuum Advance for the ignition distributor, and Vent and Vacuum solenoid valves to accommodate AC and engine load for the Bypass Air Control Valve to work. If you've removed these components, you're going to get erratic operation as the ECU and Fuel Injection system try to decide what to do with the information they're given.
This isn't a carbeurated 12a that can can function if you give it air, fuel, and spark - it's the 1st Generation of Mazda' s work to get Fuel Injection practical, broaden the power and increase horsepower and torque all at once. Everything in the engine bay of an SE is designed to work together.
Search on my name and SE to get lots of information on troubleshooting and SE-specific knowledge. Good luck,
