CA gsl-se running rough. i noe i serched

well my car was a 83 with a gsl-se swap. everything ran strong but blew the motor n sat for 8 months. my friend bought a gsl-se parts car running. n got the motor.

put the engine in n now the idle all weird. when i cold start it, it idles to 3k for one min then surges to 2k back to 1k then back to 2k. n never goes away. also when i press the clutch in it stays at 2k. weird.

i have a cone filter n rb exhaust. removed the air pump n acv with a block off plate. no a/c n p/s. i also changed the tps sensor and a new o2 sensor. i have a mds ignition. can it be a clogged fuel filter?

pls dont bomb with the search i read everything. the only thing i havent check was my maf and ecu, i will check that out 2day or 2morw.

thx for the help

i jsut switched both maf and ecu and still the same thing. list to check is vacuum leaks, fuel filter, and fuel injectors.

First off the BAC valve sits on the side of the intake. It's job is to bypass air to maintain a solid idle once the throttle plates are closed. To check operation, pull it off and stick your finger inside. You will be pressing on a rubber diaphragm with a spring behind, it should extend back and seat positively. If it doesn't, a good dousing of WD40 to clean is the recommendation. Make sure to reconnect it when you're done. i have done this before with a high idle situation!!

A good source of vacuum leak is the gasket between the upper and lower intake manifolds. Many times i've read on this forum a high idle and a high pitched squealing noise heard in the engine bay which was found to be that gasket leaking.

Also the intake hose from the air box to the throttle body has a few connections with steel bands. Check that all of those connections PAST the AFM (air flow meter, not a MAF like you said) are not loose (vacuum leak), otherwise whatever reading the AFM senses as the metered amount of airflow before the leak will not be the same. Whooftaa! You will be running in an overly rich situation.

Did you test and then set the tps only after the car has warmed up AND with the BAC disconnected?

also, a clogged fuel filter will show up while acceleration hard, usually not at idle. See if you can wiggle the injector plugs while it's idling, not sure if you can since it's all covered up. I know longduck had an issue with a bad injector plug, a replacement was all it took.

OH also check the radiator temp sensor, it sits towards the top of the tank. Wires break off corroded etc.

Hopefully gsl-se addict will break in with anymore suggestions.

thx juice for the info ill check it out 2morw morning. the tps is good cuz i actually swaped in a bad one before. (five finger discount at the junkyard.) n everything went bad. swap my old one n every thing went fine.

i did check the bac n connected it to the battery. all i heard was clicks. does that mean its good? ill also try cleaning it with wd.

ill double check for intake leaks

well i got the ilde to settle down. on the dynamic chamber theres four vacuum nipples facing the alt. there was a little miss match with the lines. fix that. also switched my old water thermosensor.
the big rubber hose that connects the BAC to the dynamic chamber was kinda loose. i just need to figure out wats causing my clutch problem.
