Hey guys was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and come up with an easy way to get the caliper off without breaking anything.

Take a wide face chisel and tap around where the metal cap attaches to back of caliper pivot(lightly) you don't want to distort or destroy it. It's a pressfit and will pop off,you can then spray some PBblaster in and let it soak overnight,for a day,etc. Disconnect parking brake cable and using a large screwdriver,pry bottom of caliper away. Using plastic/rubber face hammer tap caliper back down again. Continue to do this til you can rotate by hand and work caliper off pivot. Some heat can be added using acetylene torch while doing this if necessary. Once apart,pivot bore can be cleaned up with a small hone,like one would use for honing a motorcycle master cylinder bore. Or a drill bit of appropriate size could be worked thru bore by hand to clean out all the gunk and trash in there. the pin can be polished with crocus cloth or light sandpaper. Once both pieces are cleaned up fit them together and make sure they slide smoothly. Take an acid brush and lightly coat the pin and bore with silicone brake grease,lightly tap the sealing cap back on,should be good to go. Done this with several rear disc FB calipers over the years. Good luck,post back with results.

thanks will do this weekend. Hoping to autocross Saturday. Been trying to change the rear brakes for over a month...

the heat worked on them very nicely. Only problem now is I have to find some new guide pin seals. lol

they have them the 86-92 rear seal which they use the same pin so maybe the seal will be the same?

Both cars where mine. The red one was the one someone ran a stop sign on me and totaled the car. Is all that stuff shown on the table what comes in a caliper rebuild kit?

I also found the boot kit that looks like it will work. I am hoping I can find it somewhere else so I am not paying 27 bucks for 2 seals...

I remember you posting about it now. Something similar happened to an 82 GS i had a long time ago,clean car,having put a lot of work and money in it,i was really upset. That's actually two different kits The one towards the front of the bench is the caliper seals for the front of caliper (piston seal and dust seal) The other kit is for the parking brake section of the caliper,comes with all the seals,boots clamps and grease that gets packed in the housing around the mechanism. I didn't know it but one kit comes with everything to do the parking brake parts of both rear calipers. I bought two thinking each kit only serviced one caliper. All my caliper rebuild parts were wholesale closeout on Rock Auto. Brand name stuff,new caliper pistons too. Kits were like 1.49 each,pistons were 13.00 each.

I take it they aren't on rockauto anymore cause I can't find anything that offers the parking brake stuff on them?

Off topic...

would you happen to know how the bushing goes on the wiper arm connected to the wiper motor? mine popped off when I was swapping out my wiper motor and now I can't get it back together correctly and there is a lot of slack in the actual wiper arms.

Not sure about bushing,knock on wood,my car hasn't had any wiper issues. Maybe put up a pic ,did you have any slack in wiper linkage before disassembly?

no and i know the linkage bushing is apart. I just don't know how put the bushing back together since it is two pieces.

no but it is easy to pull out. only issue is the car is 2 hrs away at the moment. Will be back at my place in May though for the motor swap.
