GSL-SE Questions

I have a couple of ?'s. I have an 84 GSL-SE with 200K mi. on it and I want a new engine on it. Now I don't want to rebuild it I just want a new engine. I can't find a GSL-SE engine anywhere. What can I do. It's a 13B, but can I install an 86-91 2nd Gen with no problems and what other stuff would I need? Would I need a 2nd Gen Tranny too? Wire harness? Engine mounts? ECU? I don't know but I know I can find a 86-91 13B engine just about anywhere. Is it an easy swap? I'm on a low budget here. Also, if it's too much and I decide to just rebuild it, can I get a 2nd gen intake system on my GSL-SE? It's the same engine basically. And can a Turbo II oil cooler be installed in my GSL-SE? Please help.

If you want to do it as simply as possible, find a 2nd gen engine. Swap the front cover and oil pan with the old engine. Either use the 2nd gen intake manifold (preferred) or just reinstall the old SE manifold. Make sure you have the proper flywheel on the 2nd gen transmission. The GSL-SE one will not work. That is more or less what is needed. If you use the 2nd gen manifold, there are a couple of little things to worry about but nothing serious. It isn't a difficult swap.

there are lots of places to get a re-built engine and they are all going to be around $2K for 13b's, mazdatrix, rx7 heavan, dan atkins, fc3s.org. to adapt a 2ed gen engine in an -SE will take time, money, chase down the parts, change the tail shaft on the transmission/shifter, the last mistake would be to take a turboII engine and change it over to NA. IMO. keep looking for 84-85 13b re-egi and save yourself some pain.
