I know this is an old thread but I've been trying to figure out these numbers. I figured it would be better to bump this than start a new thread with the same info.
Is 15,000 a good estimate? Where does that number come from?

the motor trend road test of the GSL-SE says 15% of the total, or about 7,500 units per model year.

Old [Sch|F]ool
Somehow I have a 12/83 GSL that had the 3.933, and *both* GSL-SE rearends I've bought had the 4.077 final in them. Strange.

Where do you find the build date, I'll go out and look.

My GSL-SE has manual steering. My brother's was power and it leaked - that was anoying for him. I bet mine will be a lot nicer all around. His also had over 200k and had slop in the motor mounts and rear end links. Mine only has 140k with hockey pucks and a new competition trans mount. The rearend rubber bushing are also probably less sloppy than his. I'll find out once I can drive the thing; getting the EFI wired and exhaust fabbed up are next right after pinion angle is "adjusted" today.

4.076 thru Nov 1984. 800001-873902
3.909 form Dec 1984. 873903-
My car seems to be completely original as gar a drivetrain. I'm sure I have the lower gear because the RPM is always higher than my old car in 4th. I had a S3 GSL rear.
