Nope. The S5s are totally different. The S4s look the same and the plug will fit, but the voltage is different and the voltage swings the opposite way as the door opens, from my understanding.

Today's your lucky day! I switched my Gsl-SE to carb, and still have the air flow meter with a receipt showing it was replaced in 1998 by Mazda, when the car had 123,000 miles. I switched it to carb at 135,000, so it's barely used and the receipt says it cost $873. I'll sell it to you for $100 plus shipping, if you're interested.

From my understanding the s4 gave it ome more power because it hasbetter flow than the s3 one, so this is not true???

no. i think carl was experimenting with porting a gsl-se AFM.
another thing is that i think the s4 fuel pump runs totally off of a relay under the hood while the -se pump is run from a signal from the AFM while the engine is running.

yep found it

Yes, the S4 is a bit larger. It won't work with the SE ECU,though. Here is a link that explains how you could maybe mod an S4 to work.

http://max7.rx-7.org/mods/mod-afm.htm

The S4 engines also had a better flowing intake as well that helped to account for the power difference. I am sure you can find an AFM. Check the for sale section. You find some people parting SEs or others that have converted to a carb setup or a TII swap.

Air flow meter. Not mass air flow sensor. Big difference.

You gotta know what you're asking for, otherwise you might get what you asked for instead of what you wanted.

Like calling up the Frod dealership and asking for price/availability on a rear O2 sensor. They'll look at you like you're nuts, then inform you that it's called a catalyst monitor. That's just semantics.

Air flow meters measure air *volume* through the unit. Mass air flow sensors measure air *mass* through the unit. This isn't semantics.
