GSL-SE MAF Sensor With Cone Filter And Adapter

I recently purchased one of these for my 84 GSL-SE, and am hoping someone who has / had one can assist me. How did you connect this to the hose that normally connects to the stock air box? I see the hole in the adapter, but am not sure if you had to fabricate something to allow this to function properly. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not sure of what you are referring to but the cone filter just bolts to the adapter and the adapter bolts to the AFM and that is all there is to it.

On the stock configuration, there is a black hose that goes between the air pump and the black metal box that houses the air filter.. When the adapter is connected, this leaves the black hose connected to the air pump, but to nothing on the other end.. My question is, should this hose be connected to the hole that is in the adapter, should I simply leave the hose, or should I plug this hose. From the sounds of it, maybe I should just re-connect it all to stock and call it a day! LOL

They say pics are worth a thousand words...

This is the hose I am speaking of that connects to the stock air box. I am not sure where / if anywhere / this has to plug into or what it actually does

This is the hole in the adapter I am speaking of. I would assume the above hose should go here? They are different diameters, so I was asking if something had to be fabricated in the OP

Thanks in advance!

No idea what that hole is in there for, but you could fab something up to attach that hose there. That hose should have some sort of filter on it.

they sell little tiny cone filters dude, just buy one and stick it in that black hose, its like $10, and cover that hole up with your cone filter, im doing the same thing on mine right now just having some money issues right now lol, hope it helps.
looks like their called breather filters, http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-3996-C...9586404&sr=8-1
should work fine i would think, the holes kinda small though

honestly, if you have all the stuff for the stock airbox, you would be better of leaving the airbox in place and instaling a K&N drop in. The airbox draws from in front of the radiator stock, so the air charge is cooler than the cone filter drawing air from the engine bay.

Are you actually using the MAF as well? How?

my idea was similar but i wanted to run a tube from where i old air box gets air to the front of the filter and leave the outside open to get air form the engine bay, kind of best of both worlds

The MAF was being used as well. it simply plugged right back in. The ONLY thing that changed was I added an adapter so I wasn't using the stock air box...just the cone filter.

That's exactly what I did. The hose to the air pump is PARAMOUNT for the fuel injection so I have learned since 1st posting this question. I was originally thinking of running an intake down in front of the radiator and bring air in through the front bottom of the lip....but they MAY be a project for down the road as I have more pressing issues on the normal maintenance side of the house (brakes / suspension / etc)

Forgive my ignorance, but is it a hotwire MAF or flapper AFM?

^ It is not a MAF it is a AFM which is a Flap type. The MAF did not come out until 89 in the S5 models.

Thanks for the correction in terms Doc. I suppose if I worded the problem correctly, the answers would come easier! I was thinkning the actual housing where the flapper is was called the AFM and the electrical plug was the MAF.

One good thing that came out of attempting to add this thing was that it made me read this dang manual umpteen times and I have learned some new items to check that I didn't see on David Lane's list in reference to my idle issue, and THAT has gotten a bit better too!

Thanks all for your patience...still learning the basics I guess LOL

usually when you buy a CAI kit it should come with a metal/plastic tube that has the slots to fit air lines to it and it connects from the throttle body to the air flow sensor case. then from there you need an adapter and then you have the cone filter.

no, they are very similar to the s3 afm, but they do not interchange with s3

Oh ok. While on the subject, is there any remotely easy way to convert an S3 to an MAF system?
