GSL-SE going WEBER???!!!!

I am getting pretty fed up with my EFI, so in light of this I decided to go the way of the WEBER! I have a stock port 13b that will be getting header, duels to the axel, all 2.5 inch and MSD 6a. Questions

1. Will my SE fuel pump work if I get a good regulator to slow down the flow?

2. Which is better for my application?(48IDA, DCOE,)

3. What kind of numbers can I expect after my weber, exhaust, and MSD? I have read 180hp???

Thanks guys!!!!

Ive read 180 is possible as well. I would personally get a Holley though. Heres a site Racing Beat did about the power from different intakes on different engines. Also, yes you can use the stock pump from the -SE with a good regulator to bring it down. Get a Holley regulator with the proper fuel requirements for whatever carb you get, as well as a fuel pressure gauge. Hope that helps.

PS - Just outta curiosity, what problems are you having with your FI? Im thinking about getting an -SE as a daily driver...

Why a holley? Produces less power than the DCOE everywhere below 7200 RPM. At 5500 its 20HP down.

I would go IDA if I hadn't gone for a custom setup

Well, I figured I would go with the Weber for the ponies, my tps has dead spots, my injectors need cleaned, and personally I think the GSL-SE EFI is pretty chinsey(small AFM, etc.).

I have read that IDA's arn't streetable as the DCOEs, that the DCOE's have more variant in the throttle. Like the IDA's are ment to be off or on.

Can someone with this setup confirm some numbers?

Thanks

IDA's don't have a choke mechanism, but other than that the fuel circuits are pretty much identical to the DCOE bar a slightly more limited venturi selection. A good tuner should be able to make them very streetable, if you can find one.

EFI on IDAs would still be better.

I am going HOlly!!

No more EFI here too.

I just ordered the Racing Beat Holly Intake kit for my 6-Port 13B! I also got a new oil pan for $72. heh. I wonder how much HP the oil pan will give me.

They even threw in a free Tech Manual, and catalog.

I went with a Holly Blue fuel pump and regulator from Summit Racing. $105

I have really been thinking about the Holley setup myself. Racing Beat posts 180hp. Pretty impressive.

I could think of much cheaper ways of getting up to 180, but that's the fun of it. Everyone can choose what they want.

Please continue..... even with all my mod's I still don't think that I'm at 180hp.

Anymore ideas without porting or turbo?

Anyone have living proof of what a 48IDA, on a 6port 13b will do? Of course, full exhaust, ignition, etc.

Thanks guys

I've got a VERY mild street port on my 13B 4port, Full RB streetport exhaust system, and Weber 48 IDA...

I've got 199.3hp/166.4tq at the wheels.

DAMN!! Almost 200hp to the wheels!!! So figuratively speeking, with a stock port I should be looking at around 175-180hp at the wheels?

200 at the wheels sounds a little high, but I am guessing those are dynojet HP. Based on the evidence I have seen that setup should be between 210 and 230 at the flywheel, which on a UK dyno would be 180-190area at the wheels. Still very nice.

I have seen a number of runs of cars around this HP figure and the coastdown figures and you are seeing around 50HP loss at 8000RPM. On A dyno you can also gain 5HP just by adding 10PSI to the tyres. ( aside, one of the most popular tuners in the UK recently had a complete calibration done and a lot of people were very upset to find they had about 10 less HP than they had been bragging about for years).

If you leave the car stock you can gain about 15HP by ripping out the air flap and using a megasquirt for fuelling. Not bad for $120 and very easy on an S4 where you still have clockwork ignition. Beyond that I couldn't tell as the stock NA intake system offends me so I don't own any cars with it on.
