GSL-SE fuel pump re-wiring

hi guys,
i'm trying to figure out the best way to re-wire my fuel pump. the reason i need to do this is because the previous owner simply ran a power wire that was stuffed into a slot of an existing fuse in the fuse box inside the car to the fuel pump.

what i want to do is to add a relay and wire it directly to a fuse in the engine bay (no longer using fuseable link). I'm looking to see what i can use to trigger the fuse. looking at the wiring diagram, do i get it from the X-02 connector (ignition switch) and splice into the BW wire? thanks guys.

edit, i also see the fuel pump cut relay but i don't even know if that's still in the car (is it close to the ignition switch?)

I found a connector for the fuel pump cut relay next to the stock GSL-SE ECU (my car was missing that stuff when I got it so I had to find it). Just looped a wire like you're supposed to do on the 12A cars under the driver's dash, and it worked. Fuel pump now runs when the key is on. You will have to lift the carpet etc to find it.

i got the switch currently coming from the stereo wiring but if there is a "fuel pump relay", I'd rather pull it from there, for safety. but i could not find it in the wiring diagram. there is a "circuit opening relay", is that what you are referring to jeff?

Maybe. I don't know the actual name. I think it's controlled by the ECU so that's why it's located over next to it rather than under the driver's dash like the 12A.

Yes in order for it all to work you must have the Circuit Opening Relay and Jumper the short connector for the Fuel Pump. Download the 1985 GSL-SE and go to file page 16 to find what I am talking about. I normally use the wire harness positive to energize the relay coil and run a nice 10 gauge wire with a fuze close to the battery to the relay and ground the pump out with a 10 gauge wire as well.

I just went through this recently myself. At the ECU under the passenger's feet is a black Relay (circuit opening relay) at the lower left side. A 10 mm bolt holds it in place. You can run a jumper wire between two terminals of the connector (forget now which two). I think between the brown and blue, but not sure. Don't forget to try a jumper wire first under the hood on the passengers side near the strut tower. It is a connector with a black rubber cover. You may be able restore your factory power to your fuel pump by removing the existing wire from your fuse box. It will just take some tinkering.

i don't think i'm understanding the "jumper" piece that's being mentioned. so here's the diagram...my thought is to take the blue (L) wire on the Circuit Opening Relay and use that as the switch on my own relay. i'm currently using something from the stereo harness as the switch and it works fine.

for now, i am using 16 gauge wire from the fuse to the relay and the relay to the fuel pump. figure it's at least better than the stock wiring but may upgrade that later once i have to use the bosch 044 pump.

The jumper wire under the hood by passes the AFM. If the problem is there, the jumper wire will allow the fuel pump to run, you do this when testing the fuel pump pressure/volume. The jumper at the COR would only by pass the relay and would provide_constant power to the pump.
