GSL-SE converted to carb wont start
car was converted by previous owner and he had hacked up the harness i am in the proces of swaping the full harness car ran before until i smelled something burning then car was parked and started doing the harness swap now car wont star after sitting for 3 weeks please help first time messing with carburators oh and motor sound like its getting spark but no fuel and fuel pump sounds like its running at full blast please help
if you dont feel you're getting fuel then few things could be wrong....when i wasnt getting fuel it was a combination of things....
1. the gas tank was filled with dirty 20 year old gas and debris (practically sand),also the fuel strainer inside the gas tank was corroded and its bits and pieces were left floating in the tank so i had to pay 100 to get it professionally cleaned at a radiator shop...
2. The debris from the gas tank got into the fuel filter and TOTALLY clogged it...
3. last but not least....i found out my fuel pump wasnt working
Clean out your gas tank if possible (you'll at least know u have a clean gas tank rather than a 20 year old one).....
replace the fuel strainer that goes in the tank if its corroded (30 dollars at mazda dealership)
change your fuel filter
change fuel pump
im not sure if these were the exact factors to your problems....but these were the steps i took to fix my car when it wasnt getting fuel

oo yeah....and when i checked my fuel pump....it sounded like it was working too, but after being told several times that it must be the fuel pump....i bit the bullet and bought one....and things worked after that (it was probably the only thing wrong anyway but i was glad i replaced the rest while i was down there).....you could try unplugging the fuel line that goes into the engine and see if fuel squirts out of the tube....if not, then its your fuel pump man.....and besides, if its an old stock fuel pump...it wouldnt hurt to have a new one.
curiosity may have killed the cat, but in my case it fixed my rx7

i keep leaving things out -_-
one more thing.....my car was working just fine before all of this....when i removed the gas tank to clean it, i had to wait 1-2 weeks because the shop was busy...in the meanwhile, my car was just sitting there for 2 weeks....after the 2 weeks, i got my fuel tank back and installed it....my car didnt start and i would soon find out that it was the fuel pump (apparently the car sitting there for 2 weeks killed the fuel pump..dont ask me why :/ )

Try disconnecting the fuel line at the carburetor to see if fuel is getting to the carburetor. It is possible the fuel pump bit the dust. If the previous owner simply threw a regulator to regulate the stock efi fuel pump from approx 40 psi to around 3-5 psi for carbed use. The stock fuel pump goes belly up in pretty quick fashion from this kind of treatment.

Like they said, pull your fuel supply line off, and see if fuel comes out when the engine is turned over. Stick the line in a coke bottle and turn the engine over for about 15-20 seconds. Due to the wiring in 84-85's, the fuel pump only runs when the engine is turning. If fuel does come out, then pull the plugs and check them all for spark. If both of those check out, and you have good compression, then I'd say it's your carb or a vacuum leak. Try all that and post back what you find.
Also, what kind of carb are you running? Shall I assume that since you are in miami, the engine doesn't have to deal with much cold? Rotaries are very cold-natured, and can be downright cold-blooded when they are out of tune and/or have vacuum leaks. Check your hoses to make sure they are all connected up right and not leaking anywhere. Also, make sure the coke bottle is clean and dry so you can inspect the gas for water and trash.
aws140, yes, the stock nikki carb requires (Sterling would correct me here
) about 5 psi fuel pressure straight from the pump. The fuel injection runs on a fuel pressure regulator valve that I believe was 2.5 bar, or 38 psi. Remember the carb sucks fuel through a tiny straw, the injection sprays fuel at high pressure through a fine mist nozzle. So yes, the fuel injected 13B has a totally different fuel system all the way back, with the tank as the only similarity. If he had the higher pressure pump, the pressure would force the needle valves in the carb to stay open and would flood the engine. But since he said it ran before, I must assume it has the lower pressure pump. Of course, as 4portgsl said, they may have thrown a 4-5lb fuel pressure regulator on there, but I have a hard time believing that the stock pump could even work behind one of those. The stock pump by design could not supply enough fuel at the lower pressure to run the engine much faster than idle. Besides, it would be cheaper to buy a new fuel pump than a fuel pressure regulator, fittings, and modify the metal fuel lines, and mount the regulator somewhere.
did they change the fuel pump for a carb pump?
