gsl-se cluster swapping.

I havnt really searched for this but can i adapt an 84 gsl-se's updated gauge cluster to my 83 model?

Would like a cluster that works and i really want that style instead of putting aftermarket gauges in and ruining my pleasnt veiw from my cockpit.

I should also add can i swap swap some of the options like the doors and windows too? I know the gsl se im gonna take parts from has auto windows and i would like that option.

You'd need the whole dashboard, I'd think. The shape is different.

You actually like it? It's full of blech. Red gauges are hard as heck to read in twilight, I haven't seen one where all of the four auxiliary gauges worked so you will need aftermarket gauges anyway, and the thing that really pisses me off about it (besides people calling it GSL-SE gauges when ALL American Series 3s were infected with it) is that the gauges have different fonts.

Take a look at this BS:

The voltmeter and tach are numbered in a short, fat font, while the oil pressure gauge and speedometer are in a tall, narrow font. The temp gauge and fuel level gauge are also two different fonts. Why? Because screw you, that's why!

I do like that style. Mainly because now all my aftermarket gauges are red anyways. And im ok without the oter stock gauges i just need a working speedo and tack and some actual lights bit prefer this style more.

If Series 1 and 2 clusters are interchangable, then you would need to rewire it because the Series 3 cluster is different wiring-wise. (I have no S2 experience, only S1)

That is kinda moot because, as mentioned earlier, the cluster is a different shape, and I think the S3 unit is larger too.

Well then if i need the dash and the everything i can get those. As for the rewiring i have a ground issue anyways rewiring it to work would mot be so bad since i already have to tear the dash out but iam going to do some searching after work on it.

Rewiring = chassis wiring needs to be swapped from the S3 car.

Hmm sounds like fun but i guess i may have to pass on that the gsl-se im looking at is missing half its harness and that only for the motor harness cause it caught on fire.

You'd be in luck then as the engine harness is one of the things you don't need.

The underdash harness is different, all the switches are different, and I'm 90% certain that there are no bulkhead connectors.

IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE. It's been done before, for sure.

I will keep that in mind for now but i would still like that style right now.

However i guess i could try to fix my other one to get lights and a working speedo.
