GSL-SE Brake Questions

My GSL-SE doesn't have a bleeder nipple on the master cylinder, the haynes manual shows one on the left side (drivers) for 12A models. Is this normal for a GSL-SE?

Secondly, does anyone know how much vacuum the GSL-SE brake booster requires for normal operation?

Not sure what you are refering to. My 12a does not have a bleeder on the mc, nor do any of the FC or FB's that I have worked on had one. If you are replacing the mc, then bench bleed it before you install it.

On page 151 of the Haynes manual, diagram 17.11a shows the master cylinder and says "The master cylinder has a bleed screw on the left side"

Maybe this is true for SA models with the smaller booster?

Bleeder nipple is on the slave cylinder for the GSL-SE. Top of the transmission bellhousing.

Ummm, that is for the clutch. Not the brakes.

You will have to bleed line by line. No way to bleed at the top since the master pushes the fluid to the calipers. If air is in the lines you will have to do it this way.

I guess they must of been working on an SA...?

So on to my second question, does anyone know how much vacuum the motor makes for the brakes?

Could someone put a gauge on the line for me?

The whole damn Haynes manual was written fom a series 1 car. Chapter 13 has all the updates fom later models they felt were important enough to include...

most engines make around 18 in/hg of vacuum at idle.

Just install everything and then bleed the complete system. It will work fine.

I am asking specfic questions for a reason, everything is installed and not leaking, but the brakes aren't working properly, I have ss lines and hawk pads my motor is making 16in of vacuum at idle and mid 20's during revs, I have added a canister with a check valve for reserve vacuum but it still doesn't feel right, the pedal is way too hard to get the brakes working, as if the motor wasn't running.
