GSL Rear Caliper Rebuild Questions
Fellas,
I'm rebuilding my powdercoated calipers (82 GSL) that I'm using on my RX-2. Most of the hardware has surface rust on it, so I've been coating each part with axle grease, working it around, and cleaning with a paper towel. I've got most of the surfaces pretty clean with a light grease coat. In reading the FSM, it calls for three different grades of grease to be used on the parking brake bore, the actuator hardware, and in the piston bore (that pink stuff came with my seals, so no worries there).
What I have on-hand is some synthetic moly Valvoline bearing grease. Would y'all think it's suitable for the hardware and parking brake bore, or do I have to go to Mazda for some wacky grease that comes with their rebuild kit?
Also, I've got two o-rings per side. I cut the small one from the acme-threaded screw that passes into the caliper bore, but I can't find a home for the other o-ring. Any ideas?

I rebuilt mine about 10,000 miles ago, my rebuild kits included no grease either, so I just used brake fluid for lubricant, no problems so far.
Note buy a cheap brake hone (ebay search) they work great.

The bores and pistons are pristine, so there's no problem there. I was just concerned with the barking brake hardware on the other side of the piston bore. If regular axle grease is okay to use with a new o-ring (it shouldn't ever see any brake fluid there anyway), then I'm good to go. I was just surprised that the FSM was so specific regarding grease, so I wanted to ask.

Well, I've got everything else figured out and soaking in brake fluid. The only thing I can't figure out now is where the second, larger o-ring goes. I'm at a complete loss. Does anyone know where the o-ring goes?
Sorry for digging up this old thread, but the plan is to put my restored caliper together tomorrow and I´m unsure where the small o-ring goes. Am I supposed to put it on the screw that´s inside the bore so that it functions as a seal between the bore and the piston when the piston is turned all the way into the bore??
I´m not really sure if I have understood this part right and the small o-ring isn´t even mentioned in the FSM, so I´m thankful if someone could verify this.
Thanks on beforehand!
