ground control front coil over installlation

I just bought some ground control front coil over kit and camber/caster plates. I know i have to cut out the old spring perch in order to weld the coil over but does anybody know how low where your suppose to weld the new perch? Thanks for the help.

Did they come with instructions? You might have to call them for support, but maybe someone on the forum has experience with them and can give you specific information.

How long is the spring that you'll be using? That will probably decide where the perch should be....

you can in theory put the perch where you want it, although if its lower you need a longer spring.

i can measure mine if you want

thanks guys and jimmy54 that would be great. I bought it without instructions. I also wanted to know if your welding just a new perch to sit in or welding the coil over piece completely to the strut housing.

Go to Re-Speed's website. I believe he shows how to do the welding on the 'race' coilovers. You need to weld in a new perch. You never weld on the spring itself. Position of the perch is entirely dependent on spring length. Unless you got a killer deal on your kit, you should have bought from Billy.

A few minutes searching can do wonders.

http://mrcmfg.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=234

The coil Springsd for ReSpeed's kit are 2-1/2" in diameter, much narrower than the stock springs and need to be 8" tall. I'll let you find the install instructions, spoon feeding only goes so far, as does my generosity.

I'd install the front and rear coilovers on the widebody but I've spent over 3k on suspension and brakes and can't see tossing out a perfectly good set of Eibach Pros, which are no longer available, along with the Tokico Illuminas, both of which have less than 5k miles on them.

Have you tried contacting Gforce for instructions? I mean, I'm sure Billy wouldn't mind helping you out because he's such a nice guy, but shouldn't Gforce provide their own customer support?

I can't measure it but you can see where what is left of the stock lower spring perch.

"Locate and mark the location where the supplied laser cut lower collar seat will be welded to the
strut housing. This should be somewhere around 6” from the top of the strut housing. This number
works well for moderately lowered vehicles with 8” springs."

This is from our assembly manual in regards to where to weld the lower spring seat.

Hope this helps,
-billy

drivefast 7 thank you for taking time for giving the pictures. Would u happen to know if your kit came with the lower spring perch to weld on or id u have to make your own and how about a sleeve that goes inside the threaded collar so it wouldnt be so hollow in there.

I can answer this one for you. Yes, the kit would have come with a lower perch for you to weld to your strut housings. GC style consist of a flat seat and a short piece of tube. You can see the flat part in DriveFast7's pictures. The short piece of tube is up inside the threaded collar.

They should be able to supply the parts to you. If they will not, let me know, I can send you some of ours.

Remember, when you weld the perch make sure to remove the shock insert. Try not to put to much heat in the strut housing, you can warp it.

Ok I ve just decided to return the kit back to the ebay seller. This guy did not specify much about the kit and I even had to investigate that parts were missing. As soon as i get my money back I will just order from Billy which i should of done in the first place. He's been more help anyway.

Probably one of the smartest choices. Good you can return them.
