Great way to get 9mm plug wires for your 7
I started out trying to find something cheaper/better than what is currently available. Looking at the Racing Beat site, they list the street 8mm wires for 130, and the race 8mm wires for 114. With this new way, I will be paying ~45 for 9mm Ford Racing (5.0/5.8) wires and ~52 for the MSD distributor cap adapters. If you shop around you can actually get the wires for closer to 35 for the set. The adapters are called "Power Tower Wire Adapters". The adapters make it to where you can use the larger wires with the stock type distributor cap. So for a grand total of ~100 bucks shipped you get 9mm wires, with no need to change anything else and you also end up having 4 extra wires (the 3 longest and the really short one). I will have pics of it all installed soon.
Summit part number for the wires: FMS-M-12259-M301

Summit part number for the adapters: MSD-8805

Edit: Should mention that the reason you need the adapters is that the ford wires use the male ends on their distributor caps vs. the female ends that the 7 uses. Also should mention that I tried to change the ends/boots on the larger wires and they simply dont fit into the distributor cap.

Ian,
You can also get Accel's 8.8MM wires that are made for our cars for around $45-$55.
I had these once before and they were great wires and fit very well. They were rated very high in one of the Magazines when they were doing a comparison test of leading brands.
The thing is that I don't know if we really gain anything by these wires.
I have never noticed any difference with our cars when I ran the Accels VS the NGK wires.
What leading coil set up are you using?

FYI the Accel wires suck ***. They have a life of about 1 year. I've never heard of one person having a good longterm experiance with them. Just get the $99.00 MSD 8mm universal V8 wires and cut them to what ever length you want and they come with HEI and socket ends.

Interesting. I had them on the car for about 3 years then sold the car and they were still fine. What series of Accel wires are you talking about. There are different grades.

Yes, I have had my Accels for over a year, and havent had any problems.
Ian, you are never on MSN anymore, or atleast you dont respond
I dont understand why you would go through so much work when you can get the same thing with less parts and places for errors to occur for only 20-30 bucks more?

I havent gotten any messages that you have sent. Also I just assumed you were playing CoD4 (since thats what your name says). Didnt want to inturrupt lol. I liked the fact that I could buy the wires one week and then the adapters the next. Also, I already had the wires for my mustang. I figured I can always buy more in a year or whenever I actually will need them.
Also 9mm is bigger than 8 or 8.8. I guess Im stuck on the bigger is better thing. Also, these wires go with my color scheme.

I just make my own with the MSD stuff from Summit.
In the long run (when you have mulitple cars) it's the cheapest route. And you can make them as long or short as you wish.

This is a good option for custom ignition setups (2GCDFIS, DLIDFIS, etc.). This way you get the right length of wire and the right boots for the install. Many of us know how 1st gen wires do not fit the 2nd gen coil very well..and if you by a set of 2nd gen wires, you end up 1 wire short of a set and they are too long for most installations. This way, you can have a nice matching set in the lengths you need. Modifying a set like Ian did or making your own wires are good options for these applications.
For stock setups, the NGK wires are usually good enough for most people and are less than $30. The Magnecor wires are $50-$70 depending if you want the 8.5mm or 10mm. The RB wires are real expensive at about $130 or so.
