I was working on the Rex the other day when the motherfigure came outside... she's like "Chum, when you're done you'll lock the doors right?"... *rolls eyes*

"Mom... With my best efforts and intentions, it will take a month and 1500$ to get this car even close to road worthy. If someone manages to steal it, they deserve it. Hell, I want them to, because you have to picture this:

two guys say 'hey, we're gonna steal Jon's car... we need 1500$ worth of parts, some jackstands, a toolkit and a jimmy full of gas... we can sneak in the middle of the night, use a tow rope to get his parent's cars out of the way, and take off with it! Ya!' .. sure mum, I'll lock the doors"

I have an Alarm Linked to a satelite tracking system!

there have been a few stories in sydney papers where nice exotics such as porches etc have been stolen and tracked to the Botany ship yards where the police have been waiting and broken up organised car steeling crime gangs

To all those with the "Why bother? If a thief wants your car, nothing can stop him." attitude, you're right but you're wrong. If you had a Porsche, 4thgen Camaro, VW NewBug or Honda Prelude, then that's a good attitude and get the insurance. For 1stgen RX-7s, that line of thought doesn't stand up to the test, though. Unless you've got a F/F RX-7, no pro-thief wants your car. It'll be an opportunistic thief after a joy ride or stereo components. For those kinds of thieves, visual deterrents ARE effective. The fuel cut-out switch is the best idea, especially on carb'd cars, because the thief will believe he has done it until the car dies at the end of the street and won't start again. Caught in a new situation like that after his focus has shifted from thieving, he/she will more than likely panic and just start running. But again, a visual deterrent will make most thieves move onto the next car because they are not looking for YOUR car or an early RX-7 in particular. If you've done something that has made someone want to steal your car, that's a different matter all together. You get what you deserve.
