Got oil cooler questions...

Okay i went to the junkyard the other day and pulled two front mounted oil coolers. One i have compleate with stock lines and all hardware (14.99, not bragging) My question is can i bolt this up directly to my 85 gs? I know that i have to remove the behive and i have a pedestal waiting to be installed. What my main question is: is there somplace to mount this in front of the radiator that i don't see or will i have to make mounts? Or would it be a better idea to take the lines to a shop to have the make them longer and mount the cooler in front of the radiator?

oh yeah i'm selling the other oil cooler. i don't have pics yet but i will post some. it is in good condition, one little dent on the bottom. it had extremly clean oi in when i took it off. (i thought it was kinda weird because i was in a junkyard) pm me if interested.

You will need to make mounts. There a different ways of doing that, check out my thread in the archives for one.

All 84-85 cars regardless of trim, have mounts for a GSL-SE style oil cooler. They wont work unless you bought an SE oil cooler, though.

In that case, youll need to fabricate some mounts somewhere up there,in front of the radiator.Be carful to allow room for the lines to clear the swaybar.

The alternative(what I did,a long time ago) is to switch to an older short style radiator from the 79-82 cars.If you get a hold of a 3-core model,it will cool as well as the larger 2-core 83-85 radiators and youll have plenty of room for the 12A style oil cooler to go under it.

An easier alternative to the first option,is to get a hold of an FC oil cooler. All 2nd gens had the same unit,so theyre easy to find. The mounts on the FC coolers are much more stout and simpler to make brackets for.Plus, the lines have swiveling banjo fittings so you can route the cooler lines much easier.

I found that they don't. Your better off getting them remade, with new hoses. Using the old soft parts of the lines are just asking for trouble. Do it right, do it once. My thread gives some detail on what you need to do with the hoses also.
