Talking Got My Car Running After The Engine Swap...Finally!!

Well, I got my car started today for the first time since the new engine was put in (84GS 12A into 83 GSL). I added some nifty stuff and what not (see sig), but i was so happy when she roared to life. And let me tell you, "roared" is a very suiting word. This beast is loud. Shes running RB header, pre-silenecer, and stock muffler. I kinda like it and hate it at the same time. I like it cause its loud and intimidating, but it just sounds like a big wet fart...Hopefully a new muffler will help this...Any reccomendations? Anyway, I took it for a little test drive up my road and back to see what it ran like, and I'll be damned if I didnt find a crack in my radiator . Theres a split on the top of it right by the top tube inlet. I guess its time to break out the old torch set and weld her up (anyone done this before?). Also, I threw the timing light on her once she got warm and the choke dropped off, and found the timing to be awfully off, dispite the smooth running. Although, this may explain the EXTREME lack of power. So my next move is to get the rad sealed up, and start work on timing and tuning the carb. Anyone have any tips for adjusting the throttle cable? Cause when we took the engine out of the 84, the idle screw had the idle adjusted down to ~800 RPMs, but now that its in the 83, is up to like 1500 RPMs and will drop down if you pull on the peddle, but then as soon as you let go, it goes back up again...Whats up with this? The throttle respose is also slow...This may be the timing, or the OLD fuel in the tank...When I look at the gas in my "high performance" in line glass filter, its actually yellow, so Im thinking its time to drain the tank and get some fresh in there (I forgot about this "minor" detail). So, I think thats all for now. Im sorry if this just runs on, but Im tired and its late, so Im outta here .

Oh yeah, I pulled up on the gas peddle to get it at ~750-800RPMs when I checked the timing, so I know that the timing is off at the right idle speed...If that makes sense...

At the risk of being a post-*****, I wanna say congrats. I know I for one love seeing an engine roar to life after a few days of frankenstein work.
