Talking Got my 85 SE today, funny story.

Well my 85 se was being delivered to my office today by the seller, he drove 3 hours from Kingston (they were coming this way anyway). We did the transaction as per usuall. While we were finishing up he asked my if I wanted him to leave the car running or turm it off. I said turn it off as I still needed to put my plates on. All the while we had the car parked on Bay St (financial district in Downtown Toronto and a tow away zone). The seller left with his wife in their minivan and got back on the highway headed about another hour outside of the city to Cambridge. About 10 mins later after I had got the plates on I got back in the car and relized that he must have taken the key by mistake. Also I had left my cell phone at home and since I was parked in a tow away zone I could not leave the car, I also did not have the sellers cell phone number, only his home and work numbers. So as you can imagine some very colourfull language was pooring from my word hole. My office towers security desk was not far from the street so I went to see if I could get a hold of someone from my office to help me, but everyone was at lunch. Finally I got a friend on the line and he came down to watch the car while I tried to get a hold of the seller. I did manage to talk to a laddy at the sellers office and get his wifes cell phone. I called and told them that they had the key, so they came back. The ordeal lasted almost 2 hours. Sitting in my new SE on the side of the road with no key (and the steering was locked). Lucky for me it all worked out and the car is home safe (with a key). But tonight the heater core coollant hose broke (no big deal) but I'm lucky this did not blow when the seller was driving the car from Kingston. When I purchased the car I was aware thet there was a leak. I'm just going to replace all of the hoses anyway.

All of the sellers phone numberd were long distance, so I could call them from the security desk.

But all said and done I'm very happy. I have an appraiser coming out tomorrow to appraise the vehicle.

Its never simple is it? But you're right - damn good thing that didn't blow on the 401 and overheat the car.

My - se came from Kingston too. What is it, a secret -se breeding ground?

While you're replacing the hoses, good idea to replace all the clamps with stainless ones. The factory ones suck, and tend to cut into the hoses. But then again, you've had one before, so you know this already.

Let us know how the appraisal comes out. I'm sort of interested. Mine just needs a better paint job, and I don't want to spend the money on an appraiser just yet.

That is too funny but only because I had the same type luck with my SE. I traveled 5+ hours one way to pick mine up and after 11 hours of being on the road it died 1.5 hours from home. I had it towed back the next morning only to find out a couple days later it had a faulty ignitor. What made it worse is that the guy I bought it from gave me a spare dizzy with two good ignitors I could have just swapped out.
