Talking Got me some new rubber too

Tis the season for new rubber

Shown next to my old one with roughly 18,000miles of HARD street driving, a few drag stip runs,
a couple AutoX's and a hella lot of hard highway off/on ramps
I think I got a pretty good life out of them for R Compounds, 2 years of worth. Course if I would of had a turbo they would
of only lasted a year, if that......

now to get them mounted.....

New shoes! New shoes!

I'm growing to like mine. Okay, the wandering is a little annoying at times, especially on some of the "roads" in the city. Still haven't found the point where they slide. But the two or three times I did get the tires scrubbing, they made zero noise, and when they grabbed, they grabbed... smoothly. (Might have pics up as soon as today!)

So are we going to have a meet sometime or what?

Thats with one rotation front to back, the fronts were a bit more wore on the outer edge, but had I not got a bad puncture on one, I'd still use them, even in the rain they still stuck to the road well. They were designed as a race tire for the rain, and it shows
I'll never drive anything but R Compound on the street in my 7, far to much fun! yah they cost more but I feel with all the suspension upgrades why skimp on the ONLY part that actualy makes contact with the ground.

How true. And so is the old saying "Where the rubber meets the road". Its like speakers in an audio system, your cars performance capabilities are limited to the tires, PERIOD. I dont care how much HP or suspension mods you got. Its all about the tires.

I'm always amazed by owners that have all these mods (read 3rd gen) single, FMIC ++++ and then want the budget tires. Go get some S03's, BFG, or Proxies and be done with it.

Yep! Tires are the FIRST thing to change. It's amazing what a difference there is between quality tires and cheap junk...

What are your guys thoughts on the Yokohama AVS ES100's??

I'm a weekend warrior/daily driver (i ride a bike/ walk everywhere, so i drive spiritedly when i do drive, which is rarely).

I've heard good things about them, but just want your opinions. I'm about 95% positive the ES100's are the ones i'm going to get.

I liked my ES100's, grip good in rain or dry, make no noise at all no matter how much they're spinning. Now Peejay has them, so as him how he likes them too.

See above - I like the ES100's. When this set wears out (shouldn't take too long) I'll probably replace them with another set.

The wandering I spoke of is just par for the course with low-pro tires - had the same problem with my 205/60s on this car. The shoes I have now (thanx Matt!) are 195/50-15. I have pictures but the Forum barfed when I tried to attach.

Friend of mine had the 712's on his ZX2. They grip great, they laugh at water (picture driving 40mph through a FOOT of water, no hydroplaning! The clutch didn't like it one bit though) but they get scary when the temps get below about 40, like any high performance tire. (no traction even on clean dry pavement). Worn to slicks in about 25k. But, for a cheap tire, they were rather high quality - perfectly round and square, and they maintained that through the life of the tire.
