good idea for parts?

someone is selling a dismantled second gen 13b non turbo with all the parts included...Starter, Alternator, Smog Pump, AC Pump, Water Pump, intake manifold, exhaust manifold...for $175....my 1985 gsl se currently wont start and i believe its a small problem...might be alternator or sumthing...should i buy this dismantled engine for parts or possibly upgrades?...or if i rebuilt the dismantled 13b...would it be faster than my original GSL-SE 13b?

this would probably be a good chance for me to build my first motor also....any suggestions?

$175 sounds like a good deal, but if your car just needs something simple fix, just go ahead and do that instead of rebuilding. FCs started at 146 hp, about 10 more than your GSL-SE. Or maybe if your motor is old and tired keep that for an upgrade when rebuilding.

The 11 hp gain in the S4 over the S3 is due to intake, injector, rotor, and ecu changes. If you use the S4 block and S3 externals, hp will still be around 135.

so can i fit the s4 intake, injector, rotor and change the ecu on the s3 motor using the parts?....or would i need a lot of custom fabrication to fit them...is all this worth it for 175? i'd be getting an entire fc motor

I'd say do it just to have an extra engine should you need one later. There is a S4 13b around here for only $100 and I'm thinkin about buying it.
